Former mayor joins PR firm
ALBANY, N.Y. » Mercury, a bipartisan public strategy firm, recently announced its addition of former Saratoga Springs Mayor Joanne Yepsen to its Albany office.
Yepsen joins Mercury as a senior vice president after a 12-year tenure in elected public office for Saratoga Springs. Yepsen served two terms as mayor, and four terms as county supervisor.
“Yepsen proved in office that she gets things done, and will bring that same energy and determination to Mercury,” said Mercury Partner Michael McKeon.
From 2013 to 2017, Yepsen served two consecutive terms as mayor of Saratoga Springs. She focused on government transparency, economic growth, public and private partnerships and advocating for the horse racing industry and related jobs. Yepsen established the city’s first Fine Arts Commission, developed a public-private partnership to create a professional international visitor’s center for Saratoga Springs, promoted environmental sustainability by advocating for bike lanes and alternativeenergy and worked with federal, state, and local governments to secure funding for the city.
Yepsen spent 16 years in various roles at Skidmore College before entering the public sector.
“Mercury’s national platform will allow me to work on the issues that have mattered to me my entire career, while delivering winning results for clients,” said Yepsen. “I look forward to working with the team on a wide range of bipartisan issues.”
Yepsen chose not to seek reelection in November 2017. Her term ended Dec. 31, 2017.
