MIDDLE GROVE Gwendolyn M. Morris passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday January 16th, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones. She was lifelong resident and graduate of Saratoga Springs N.Y. Born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on March 26th, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ira DeWitt and Margaret (Hudson) DeWitt. During World War II she was employed by G.E. in Schenectad­y N.Y. and later was employed as a dietitian at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa N.Y. More than anything she enjoyed her family. She and her husband of 68 years Roland, cared for and fostered children for 15 years, and later adopted their four daughters. She enjoyed family vacations traveling with her family up and down the east coast. She was an avid baker, enjoyed gardening with her husband, and in the early days enjoyed going square dancing with the love of her life. You never left her house hungry as she enjoyed feeding all who came by. She enjoyed the Christmas holidays and always made them so special. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and loved the Lord and her church. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r. She will be greatly missed by many. She was predecease­d by her loving daughter Carolyn (Morris) Trice (Bill), her beloved grandson William Vernum Jr., her sisters Mary Coonrad, Virginia Weaver, Anna Freer, Theresa Grear and her brother Joseph DeWitt. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Roland M. Morris, her daughters Linda M. Morris, Jeanne (Morris) Hodnett and Pamela (Morris) (Thomas) Byykkonen. Also survived by her grandchild­ren Julia Schmid (Matt), Thomas Byykkonen II, William R. Ward (Melanie), Ryan P. Hodnett (Riley), Mathew, Kelly, Christina, Jennifer and great grandchild­ren Trinity, William, Jackson, and Cash, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call from 10-11 am Wednesday January 24, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Church, 3159 Route 9N, Greenfield Center where a funeral service will be celebrated at 11 am. Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylervi­lle. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518584-5373). The Morris family wishes to extend special thanks and gratitude to Rhonda Mahay for the assistance, love and support she gave Gwendolyn’s daughter Jeanne in the care of our beloved mother over the past several years. We would also like to thank Community Hospice of Saratoga, Dr. Gloria Ethier, Jane Stephans and Melissa Rivera for the love and compassion they shared when they cared for mom.
