Pratt’s daughter to attend State of the Union
Trooper from South Glens Falls was killed in accident
WASHINGTON, D.C. » U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik announced Tuesday that Sarah Pratt will be her guest at the 2018 State of the Union address next week.
Sarah is the daughter of fallen State Trooper Timothy Pratt. The longtime trooper, from South Glens Falls, died in an accident in 2016.
“Our law enforcement families make incredible sacrifices each day on behalf of our communities,” said Congresswoman Stefanik in a statement. “I am humbled by the opportunity to host Sarah in our nation’s Capital and know that she will greatly enjoy the opportunity to hear the President address the nation.”
Timothy Pratt, 55, was killed early in the morning of October 26, 2016 in an accident in front of the State Police Troop G barracks in Wilton, Saratoga County. He had just begun his shift and was assisting a lost truck driver who had pulled over. Pratt was then struck by a passing vehicle.
He was assigned to the Traffic Incident Management detail and was a member of the State Police Motorcycle Unit, leading the 9/11 Memorial Motorcycle Ride from Albany to New York City.
Pratt was well known in the community. Hundreds of mourners attended his calling hours in 2016, which had to be held at South Glens Falls High School.
The New York State Senate passed a bill designating a turnaround on I-87 near Saratoga Springs as the “New York State Trooper Timothy Pratt Turnaround” in a remembrance at the Capitol last April.
Last summer, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation designating a span over the Northway at Exit 16 to be the New York State Trooper Timothy Pratt Memorial Bridge.
Assemblywoman Carrier Woerner, D-Round Lake, and Sen. Kathleen Marchione, R-Halfmoon introduced the bills calling for the bridge’s naming.
Members of Congress are permitted one guest to President Donald Trump’s address.
The State of the Union Address will delivered Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 9 p.m.
