GREENFIELD CENTER - Charles Gorden Bearce Jr., age 77, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 1, 2018. He was born on July 15, 1940 in Everett, Massachuse­tts, the son of the late Charles Gordon Bearce, Sr., Mable Butt Bearce, and stepmother Wanda Bearce.

Charles graduated from the University of Massachuse­tts in Amherst and received his Master of Social Work at Fordham University. He was a licensed social worker for over 45 years working with families affected by alcoholism and with Vietnam Veterans. He was a proud member of Adirondack Chapter #79 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He lived a very active life, kayaking, hiking with friends, and cross-country skiing, and is happy to have been a founding member of the OGOC. Charles served his country in the US Navy, as a Navigator of C-130 airplanes in the Naval Air Transport Squadron VR-3 from 1962 to 1966.

Charles leaves behind his wife Sue Elliot of 35 years; sons, Ian Bearce, his wife Megan, Charles Bearce, his wife Melissa; daughter, Suzie Elliot-Bearce, her fiancée Anthony Burroughs; grandchild­ren, Katherine Bearce, Austin Bearce, and Andrew Bearce, his sister Charleen Lambert and husband William, along with many sisters and brother’s in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by another sister, Frances MacArthur and granddaugh­ter, Caroline Bearce and Bailey the Beagle. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Compassion­ate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, New York, with Jeff Palmer officiatin­g. Family and friends may call from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home, there will be some time after the service to share fond memories and stories of Charlie. Interment in honor of Charles will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylervi­lle, NY at a later date.
