Pair of local businesses announce new partnership
LATHAM & SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » After working together with mutual clients for more than a decade, two local businesses — one in healthcare and one in investigative services — recently announced a new partnership.
Davin Healthcare Solutions Inc. and Commercial Investigations have announced a new collaborative partnership that aims to change a certain aspect of the healthcare industry.
Focusing on academic-clinical facilities, the two companies are integrating two platforms to ensure one critical outcome — that care rendered in a clinical site is in the best interest of all parties: the student, the patient/ client, and the clinical site.
Every day in area hospitals and healthcare organizations, healthcare providers and staff are entrusted with the health and welfare of some of the region’s most vulnerable individuals.
To ensure peace of mind, patient safety and to limit liability, Commercial Investigations LLC and Davin Healthcare Solutions, Inc. have partnered in an effort to provide a seamless process for credentialing and thorough background investigations in one complete solution.
Davin Healthcare Solutions, of Saratoga Springs, and Commercial Investigations, based in Latham, have worked side by side for more than 10 years in their respective industry roles.
Recently Davin owner David Theobald and Commercial Investigations owner Michelle Pyan realized a need to manage and streamline the process involved in credentialing and background investigations for academic programs with clinical practice rotations in hospitals and healthcare organizations. Their collaboration grew out of this need and has resulted in the use of technology to streamline and bring together two important pieces involved in this process.
The new service is earmarked for colleges and universities that enroll students in medicine, nursing, and health science programs.
Students entering a hospital or healthcare organization are entrusted with the health, safety, and welfare of patients and clients and must exercise good judgment and ethical behavior, a press release from the companies stated. Such organizations have on hand controlled substances, protected health information, and other sensitive materials that require full adherence to established policy and procedure by all healthcare workers and care providers, including students on clinical rotation.
Background investigations of students are vital to ensure patient safety and limit liability, the release continued. An assessment of suitability to provide care is required prior to entering all hospital and healthcare organizations in New York state to assure adherence to ethical standards of care as well as all policies and procedures.
An increasing number of clinical facilities are required by accrediting agencies to conduct background investigations on all individuals who provide services and patient care within the healthcare setting, including students entering hospitals and healthcare organizations for clinical rotations.
Most hospitals in the Capital District are accredited by the Joint Commission. Requirements for background checks are specified and used as guidelines for accreditation or re-accreditation. Educational institutions affected include Maria College Department of Nursing and/or Health and Occupational Sciences, Excelsior College School of Nursing and the Siena College Baldwin Nursing Program.
Students who do not pass the background investigation due to presence on an exclusion list or adverse action taken against their license are unable to meet academic requirements and cannot continue in their chosen program.
The end result of the new partnership is providing a fully integrated platform to take place of the former, difficult pro-
cess of managing the many elements of credentialing and background investigations, the release said.
“Every day people we care about come in contact with healthcare professionals. The collaboration between CI and Davin provides peace of mind by ensuring that these individuals have complete credentialing and a thorough background investigation,” said Pyan, a licensed private investigator.
Pyan founded Commercial Investigations in 2004 and has grown the business with a proactive approach. The agency has a multi-industry client base and currently does business worldwide with various sized companies, including many non-profit organizations and Fortune 500 companies.
The partnership is built upon the companies’ similar missions with emphasis on ethical business practices and accountability, along with other shared values.
Pyan said the professional partnership she and Theobald have created makes sense and is energizing, as they are both innovative thinkers. “Our respective passion for our fields, and protecting vulnerable populations, really comes through in our partnership.”
Theobald is a nurse entrepreneur with healthcare experience and expertise in staffing challenges and vendor solutions. A former critical care nurse, he has worked with organizations of all sizes and populations to create innovative solutions that lead to better patient outcomes, and contribute to building a quality, patient-centered workforce.
“Through our collaborative partnership with Commercial Investigations, we are now able to streamline all background checks and drug screens directly into our compliance system,” Theobald said, adding that this integration is highly significant as it increases the efficiencies needed to make important hiring and placement decisions for clients.
Theobald originally started working with Pyan more than 10 years ago because of her company’s high ethical standards and commitment to supporting local business endeavors that benefit the community.
“Michelle and her team are excellent at providing accurate and timely background information for all our nursing and allied healthcare candidates,” he said. “It is a pleasure to work with her and share best practices and creative ideas that support the overall quality of our caregivers who provide patient care in our hospitals and healthcare organizations.”
