RPI goalie Linden Marshall named Rookie of the Week

By Stan Hudy TROY, N.Y. » ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly men’s hockey award winners and Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) student-athlete Linden Marshall has been named Rookie of the Week after helping the Engineers to a 1-1 record last week.

A freshman from Victoria, B.C., Marshall posted a 1.52 goals against average and a .948 save percentage in two contests last week. He stopped 55 of the 58 shots he faced, including 29 of 30 in RPI’s 2-1 victory over then-No. 1 Cornell on Saturday night. Against Colgate the previous night, he made 26 saves on 28 shots in a 3-0 defeat. He had the second best goals against average and save percentage of any conference goaltender who played at least two games.

Marshall has appeared in 21 games for the Engineers this season, including 20 as a starter. A former member of the Trail Smoke Eaters, he has a 2.94 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. In 1203:52 minutes, he has 602 total saves, stopping more than 40 in a game three times and more than 30 on 11 occasions.

Earning the league’s Goaltender of the Week on January 16, he currently ranks sixth nationally in save percentage by a freshman at .911, Marshall is also fourth in total stops and fifth in minutes played. Since January 1, he is 2-6-1 with a 2.74 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.

In 13 ECAC Hockey games (12 starts), Marshall is 3-6-2 with a 2.88 goals against average and a .916 save percentage, stopping 395 of 431 shots. He ranks sixth in conference save percentage and fourth in total saves.

The Engineers (5-20-4; 4-11-2 ECAC Hockey) are home to Dartmouth on Friday for their only game of the week. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. .700 attack percentage in the win against Emmanuel College. He also added eight digs on the week with 14 total blocks.

Overall on the year, Sage is 3-5 on the young season and will be in action on February 6 at Southern Vermont College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match. Sanders has 58 kills with a .427 attack percentage, which leads the Gators. He also has 13 digs with a team-best 20 total blocks on six solo blocks and 14 block assists. He is third in scoring with 72.0 points in 26 sets played thus far. WA / Enumclaw) was recognized after winning the high jump with a height of 1.62 meters at the Ithaca Bomber Invitation­al and Multi, a multi-divisional, non team scoring meet hosted by Ithaca College, She reached the winning height on her fifth attempt and went on to defeat 25 others in the event. The high jump was Salkind’s only event in the meet.

Saturday’s meet was the fifth for the Engineers and fifth for Salkind, who has finished no lower than third place four times. She was seventh in the season opener on December 2 and then came in third at Middlebury in mid-January, second at Ithaca the following week and second at Middlebury on January 27. Her season-high height is 1.63 meters, which she accomplish­ed at the Middlebury Invitation­al two weeks ago.

Last season, Salkind, a nuclear engineerin­g major, competed in the high jump and long jump. She was victorious in the high jump three times, including the Liberty League Championsh­ip, and runner-up twice. She was the Liberty League Field Performer of the Week twice.
