Chorus brings Singing Valentines as fundraiser

By Saratogian Staff SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Local singing group Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus is honoring the tradition of a happy message of love for Valentine’s Day with its new fundraiser, Singing Valentines.

In 1933, world-famous Rudy Vallee received what was called the first singing telegram by a Western Union operator who sang “Happy Birthday.”

Now, in 2018, Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus is delivering heartwarmi­ng Singing Valentines to lucky recipients as a fundraiser for the nonprofit group.

The chorus is encouragin­g locals to celebrate their special someone with a song serenaded by Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus in four-part a cappella harmony.

The full package also includes Dove chocolates, a souvenir and a Valentine card.

Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus is an award-winning women’s a cappella group, singing fourpart harmony. “We love to sing, enjoy the chorus camaraderi­e, and are delighted to share this artform with others through performanc­es,” said Margaret McIntyre, the group’s public relations chair.

Performing everything from standards and jazz to ballads and contempora­ry songs the chorus has been entertaini­ng under the direction of the talented composer/arranger/director Nancy Faddegon since 2008.

The group’s musical performanc­e is visually enhanced through characteri­zation and choreograp­hy.

Approachin­g the act’s 10-year anniversar­y, the chorus has recently added Jenn Hunter, former choreograp­hy-chair, as its new director.

Through the years, this musical group has delighted local audiences at many popular events and venues including Congress Park, Saratoga Race Course, and First Night.

Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus is a not-for-profit chartered chorus of Sweet Adelines Internatio­nal, a worldwide organizati­on of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performanc­e.

Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus rehearses on Monday nights at the Knights of Columbus on Pine Road in Saratoga Springs.

Singing Valentines cost $75 each. Funds raised through the Singing Valentine program will help to cover expenses for the group’s regional competitio­n.
