BARCELONA, SPAIN On February 12, 2018, Terence “Terry” Butler, 61, with family at his side, passed away of leukemia. Terry was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, growing up on Fifth Avenue as the youngest of six. He was a 1975 graduate of Saratoga High School. As a teenager Terry discovered a love of music particularly of the flute. He attended the Boston Conservatory of Music after high school. He went on to a lifetime of music as a beautiful, talented flutist who enjoyed an international reputation. He entertained audiences in his beloved Barcelona, throughout Europe and the United States, as well as in Japan. His genres included classical, jazz and alternative. In additional to live performances he had many recordings and was a composer. He was as influenced by the Rolling Stones as by Johann Sebastian Bach. He was truly respected in his field. His haunting and inspirational music will be missed by many. Terry was a devoted husband and father. He was a sweet, funny and loving grandfather who enjoyed babysitting his granddaughter, Miyah, who truly brought light to his life. Terry married Anna Ruggiero in 1981. Anna and Terry made their home in various places including Boston, Saratoga, and London England, finally settling in Barcelona Spain where they had two children, Yana and Hanns. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Betty Butler. He is survived by his wife, Anna, his children Yana and Hanns, and his precious granddaughter Miyah. Terry is also survived by his siblings Barry Butler (Sandra), Barbara Rothe (Stephen), Jack Butler (Janet), Deborah McLaughlin and Tim Butler (Karen) as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. As one of Terry’s friends put it “The Cosmos now has another talented musician and all-round great person among its ranks.” Services will be in Barcelona at the convenience of his family. A memorial service is also being planned for the summer in Saratoga Springs
