Sage hoops teams honored, RPI names baseball captain

Sage, which is under the direction of Allison Coleman, who is now in her fourth season with the Gators. She has directed this year’s team to an 18-7 overall record, while also posting a 12-4 mark in conference play. Joining Coleman on the bench this year is former Sage women’s basketball player, Ashli Fragomeni and Bridget Carney. The 18 wins this season is tied for the third most in school history with the 2014-2015 team which went 18-8 under the guidance of Coleman in her first season at Sage.

Named to the First Team from Sage is senior forward Gen Schoff. Schoff becomes the first Sage female student-athlete to garner a First Team citation. Earning Second Team All-Empire 8 Honors is junior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonvill­e), while junior guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) earned All-Empire 8 Sportswoma­n Honors.

Schoff, who earned Empire 8 Player of the Week honors after a banner week that included setting an Empire 8 single-game free throw record with 18 made free throws, is the team’s second leading scorer this season. She missed three games this season with an injury and now boasts a 14.9 ppg average, while adding 8.4 rpg on the boards with a team-best 28 blocked shots. She is Sage’s No. 2 all-time player in points, rebounds, blocks and game played. Schoff has racked up 1,374 points, 857 rebounds, 124 blocks and has played in 105 games. She has scored double-digits in 72 of those games played, while making a program-best 399 free throws.

Parslow, who set a Sage single-season record last week with her 71 made three-pointers leads the Gators in scoring with her 377 points. She has added 96 assists with 29 steals in 25 games played and started. On her career, Parlsow now has 955 career points putting her in the No. 7 spot, while adding a single-season 71 three-pointers this year. She is now second in the Gator career three-point record category with 168.

Holmes, who is a 25-game starter for the team owns a 6.6 ppg average to go with her 34 made three-pointers. She has also handed out 57 assists Averaging 34.5 minutes per game, Holmes is also making her presence felt in the Gator career record book. She has scored 117 career three-pointers and is currently fourth alltime at Sage. She has also now played in 81 games at Sage, which stands 13th best, while also collecting 538 career points. ROCHESTER, N.Y. » The Sage Colleges’ men’s basketball team had two performers honored with the release of the 2017-2018 Empire 8 All-Conference awards on Thursday. Sage, which is a first-year member of the Empire 8, finished the season with an 11-14 overall record with a 6-10 league showing.

Named to the 2017-2018 Empire 8 Honorable Mention Team from Sage was junior center Kevin Lenehan (Delanson, NY/Duanesburg), while senior captain Barceem Dukes (Gloversvil­le, NY/Gloversvil­le) was named to the Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Sportsman of the Year Team.

Lenahan, who earned Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors once this season, finished his first season at Sage with a 12.2 ppg average, while adding a teambest 198 rebounds on an 8.3 rpg average.

A starter in 23 of 24 games played, he also connected for a 47.7% shooting performanc­e from the floor with 113 made field goals on 237 attempted with 31 blocks and 292 points. He was Sage’s high scorer five times on the season, while adding 11 games as the high rebounder. His season high’s included 26 points against Hartwick (1/30/18) and 14 rebounds also against Hartwick (2/13/18). He finished with season with seven doubledoub­les and 15 games with double-digit scoring.

Dukes, missed the first few weeks of the season with an injury but rebounded to start 19 of 23 games played on the year. He added 10.2 ppg with 6.9 rpg and had 13 blocks with an impressive 51.5% field goal percentage (105204) and handed out 22 assists. On his two year career at Sage, Dukes added 255 career rebounds with 23 blocks and 367 points in his 49 games played. TROY, N.Y. » Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) student-athlete JT Sawyer of Johnsonvil­le 12094 has been named a captain the baseball team.

A senior infielder, Sawyer played in 33 games last season, including 32 as a starter. He hit .241 (25 for 108) with three doubles, 12 runs scored and 10 runs batted in. He compiled a .269 on-base percentage and a .303 slugging percentage, walking eight times, while striking out just 10. Going 2 for 3 on stolen base attempts, his .960 fielding percentage was second best among RPI infielders and his three errors were the fewest. Sawyer started all 43 games for RPI in 2016, batting .271 (39 for 144) with seven doubles, a home run, 19 runs and 15 RBI. The former Hoosic Valley High School standout had a .338 on-base percentage and a .340 slugging percentage with 11 walks and four hit by pitches. He fielded at a .953 clip with four steals. In 80 career games at Rensselaer, Sawyer is hitting .258 (66 for 256) with 10 doubles, a home run, 31 runs and 26 RBI. He has lifetime .322 on-base percentage and a .309 slugging percentage. Defensivel­y, he has a .956 fielding percentage, primarily at third base.
