OLD SARATOGA HISTORICAL ASSOCIATIO­N: The Old Saratoga Historical Associatio­n has selected the 100th anniversar­y of the end of World War I as their theme this year. The group will read “A Star for Mrs. Blake” by April Smith, a novel about Gold Star mothers invited by the US government to travel to France where their sons are buried. ALBANY HERITAGE AREA VISITORS CENTER: In our increasing­ly polarized society, the symbol of the 19th century Undergroun­d Railroad movement challenges us to reflect and act upon the legacy of the institutio­n of slavery in contempora­ry times. NYS MILITARY MUSEUM: The New York State Military Museum will host programs that commemorat­e the nation’s centennial of combat operations in World War I and the 50th anniversar­y of the Vietnam War, along with topics of local interest this winter and spring. March 3, a special screening of the 1940 classic film “The Fighting 69th,” starring James Cagney, based on the World War I exploits of New York’s famous 69th Infantry Regiment. Regimental Historian Bert Cunningham will provide an introducti­on and WWI artifacts related to the 69th, its commander, Lt. Col. William “Wild Bill” Donovan, and its regimental chaplain, Father Francis Duffy, will be on display. 2 p.m., 61 Lake Ave, Saratoga Springs. OPERA-TO-GO: Opera Saratoga’s Opera-to-Go production­s allow students to experience the thrill of opera - up close and personal. SARATOGA SENIOR CENTER: Opioid Overdose Training Provided by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. This free training is designed to inform the public about the dangers of opioid overdoses and how to avoid and even reverse them. The training will provide attendees with naloxone, an opioid antagonist, that when administer­ed properly can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. CLEAN TECH ECHS SHADOW DAY: Eighth grade students from throughout the region are invited to visit the Clean Technologi­es & Sustainabl­e Industries Early College High School to learn more about the program on Tuesday, March 6, from 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Prospectiv­e students will have the opportunit­y to take a tour of the TEC-SMART facility, meet with current ninth grade students, as well as visit the Junior classroom, Senior classroom, and a HVCC college level class.
