WOMEN’S LACROSSE SHEN GRAD HARBINGER NETS HAT TRICK FOR UALBANY

ALBANY, N.Y. » The University at Albany’s second-half comeback, led by three goals from freshman and Shenendehowa grad Kendra Harbinger, wasn’t enough to overcome Dartmouth in a 12-8 women’s lacrosse defeat Wednesday at Casey Stadium.

The Great Danes trailed by seven at halftime before climbing back to within 11-8 on Kaylee Rickert’s goal with about five minutes to play.

But a potential goal that would have cut the lead to just two was called off because of an illegal stick, and Dartmouth’s Ellie Carson, who finished with six goals, closed out the scoring moments later, ending the Great Danes’ comeback bid.

Playing their first game at Casey Stadium after three consecutive road games to start the season, UAlbany also got goals from Emma Powlin, Kaylee Rickert, Paige Werlau, Kyla Zapolski and Madison Conway.

Sam Tortora picked up two assists for UAlbany.

Dartmouth struck first, scoring two goals within a span of 17 seconds to take a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes. But Zapolski and Werlau answered to even the score at 2 with 20 minutes to play in the first half.

The Big Green then ran off seven consecutive goals over the next 20 minutes, leaving the Great Danes facing a 9-2 halftime deficit.

Conway and Powlin started the comeback, with the latter scoring on a freeposition shot with about 23 minutes to play to narrow Dartmouth’s lead to 9-4.

After a Dartmouth goal pushed the lead back to six, Harbinger scored three of the game’s next four goals, all coming on free-position shots. Her third, with 12:10 to play, made the score 11-7.

UAlbany travels to Bucknell for a noon draw Saturday in Lewisburg, P.A.

GUILDERLAND GRAD GERETY NOTCHES HAT TRICK FOR SIENA

BURLINGTON, V.T. » Siena Women’s Lacrosse fell 17-10 at Vermont in a midweek contest. Sophomore Alexis Deaken recorded five goals in the contest.

Deaken’s five goals tied her career-record of goals scored in a game. Guilderland grad Kerry Gerety tallied her first hat-trick with three goals on seven shots. Julia Sardella and Kiera Young each added a goal for Siena (0-2).

Elise Koehl led Vermont (2-2) with eight goals off of 10 shots. Six other Catamounts scored in the victory.

Vermont jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead within the first four minutes of play. Gerety picked up her first goal of the game to put the Saints on the board. The Catamounts would continue to hold the advantage, but Gerety put up her second goal, while Deaken tallied her first of the game off a free-position shot, but it would not be enough as Vermont jumped out to a 10-3 lead at the half.

The Saints scored the first three goals of the second half and trailed just 10-6, but Vermont would respond and tally three of their own. Deaken tallied back-to-back goals for the Saints midway through the final frame keeping the Saints within striking distance as they trailed 138. Both teams scored one more to put Vermont up 14-8, but the Catamounts would end the game as they started by tallying the final four goals.

Sammy Horton tallied six saves for the Saints. Both Gerety and Megan Power notched five draw controls.

The Saints will travel to face Army West Point on Saturday, March 3 at 1:00 p.m.
