CORINTH - Madeline “Bobbie” Ruth Gilbert went to be with her Lord on March 1, 2018. She was born to Anna (White) and James Winslow on Eggleston Street, Corinth, during a snow storm, November 16, 1922. She was the youngest of six children and joked that her parents ran out of height and red hair by the time that she was born. She was a graduate of Corinth High School. On May 23, 1942 Madeline married Joseph D. “Dud” Gilbert in Watervliet and they honeymooned at a hunting camp in Long Lake. Most of their married life they lived on the farm on Comstock Road in Corinth where they raised five children. Madeline loved the Lord and her family. She attended church every Sunday all of her life, and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed quiet visits with relatives and friends, and her warm and gentle spirit touched countless people. She loved music, especially hymns, and sang and played the piano and the accordion. She could be heard singing as she worked around the house and in her garden. Her delicious homemade bread and doughnuts were loved by all. For a few years “Bobbie” and “Dud” ran a small grocery store in Stillwater, NY. Failing health caused Madeline to leave her beloved farm and she has resided at Maplewood Manor (Saratoga Center) in Ballston Spa for several years. She is survived by her children: Vera Stetson, Lynn Benevento (John Moyer), Walter Gilbert (Charlene), Vicki Hedges, and by her daughter in law Carol Gilbert. She will be missed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the last of her siblings. Joseph died in 1994, and her son, James (JD) passed away in 2015. She is also predeceased by her sons in law, Donald Stetson and Gino Benevento. Friends may call Friday, March 9, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation on Friday at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Blackwood Cemetery, Hadley. In lieu of flowers, the contributions in Madeline’s memory may be directed to a charity of one’s choice. To express online condolences, please visit brewermillerfuneralhomes.com.
