SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.» The Spa City now has a new cafe with a European twist, thanks to the opening of KaffeeHouse.

The new eatery was opened recently by a local family hailing from Germany.

Owners Sabine and Matthias Solga started the business along with their son, Marcus and Matthias’s mother, Ursula, for whom owning a cafe has been a longtime dream.

This is the Saratoga Springs family’s second local business, following Dr. Matthias Solga’s nearby medical practice Saratoga Urology.

KaffeeHouse is located at on the first floor of 120 West Ave. in Saratoga Springs. This space was previously a cafe called The Fortunate Cup.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration was held for the new coffee shop recently with the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce.

At the event, attendees had the opportunity to try some of KaffeeHouse’s offerings.

This new coffee shop serves soups, sandwiches, pastries and breakfast as well as coffee and tea.

Just like the cafe’s half-German, half-American title, dishes include both American and European cuisine, with menu items like Parisian-style eggs, a Bavarian Pita with bratwurst and sauerkraut, Berlin Potato Soup and homemade German meatballs with potato salad.

The coffee list is diverse, too, with options such as Coachman’s Coffee (Einspänner), Ice Cream Coffee (Wiener Eiskaffee) or the standard house coffee, cappuccinos and lattes.

Sabine is particularly proud of the desserts, which she makes herself, like the German cheesecake, streusel bars and Bienenstich (Bee Sting Cake).

An affordable place to eat, everything on the menu is less than $8.

Since opening, KaffeeHouse has been listening to its customers and adjusting their menu to meet their desires, Sabine said, with a mission of pleasing all.

Sabine aims for people will feel comfortable at KaffeeHouse in its living room-like atmosphere enjoy themselves during their visit, and come back often.

Sabine’s hope is that people who have been to Germany and Europe and enjoyed the coffeeshops can come to KaffeeHouse and have the same experience right in Saratoga Springs.

Along with making customers happy, Sabine said the goal of KaffeeHouse is to be involved with the community.

KaffeeHouse is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
