NATURAL BRIDGE Irene Slye Face, 100, of Route 3, died Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018 at University Hospital in Syracuse. Irene Slye Face was born on January 15, 1918 in Natural Bridge, the daughter of the late Glen and Ruby (Adner) Slye. She was a 1936 graduate of Carthage High School and Canton Tech in 1938. For the next 15 years she worked and lived in the Albany area. She married William Leon Face on July 30, 1940 in Stephentown, NY. In 1953 Irene and Leon moved to Natural Bridge where they built and operated the North Country Motel until 1979. Irene and Leon were active life-time members of the 4 River Valleys Historical Society and the United Methodist Church of Natural Bridge. They were also active in Girl & Boy Scouting, PTA & AFS. They enjoyed traveling with their travel trailer for about 25 years across the USA & Canada including 2 trips to Alaska. Irene enjoyed cooking, sewing, flower gardening and genealogy. She was particularly proud of her strong ties to the United Methodist Church of Natural Bridge having traced 7 generations baptized in that church. She is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, William L. Jr. and Barbara of Waterford, NY, Glen and Laura of Ballston Spa and Mark and Cheryl of Natural Bridge, a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Rick Homan of West Carthage, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 nieces. She is predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Willian Leon Face and 3 sisters and their spouses. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 16 at the Natural Bridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Frances Hemstreet officiating. Spring burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Natural Bridge. Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 15 from 4-7pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage.
