Gideon Putnam pushes back reopening
Hotel now eyeing May 1
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The Gideon Putnam is looking to reopen May 1, as the hotel continues to restore its utility infrastructure following a basement flooding in January.
The hotel has been assessing the damage of a water main break that flooded the basement. The historic hotel was initially slated to stay closed until at least Feb. 15, and then until at least March 15, as the hotel’s utility infrastructure continued to be restored.
Equipment and other essential items that were stored in the hotel’s basement experienced damage.
The major water main break happened the morning of Jan. 15, leaving the hotel without gas service and working boilers, electric service, water service and telephone service.
The hotel continues to work to move and reschedule guest and group reservations for stays until May 1.
Since the hotel has been closed, spokesperson Glen White said the hotel has been able to undergo planned renovations to 124 guest rooms, including painting and installing new carpeting.
The Roosevelt Baths & Spa were not affected by the water main break and remain open.
According to the hotel’s website — https://www.gideonputnam.com — “The Roosevelt Baths and Spa is open for services and is accepting new reservations. Please continue to check for updates on this website or if you have immediate questions, please call (866) 890-1171.”
