FRIENDLY SONS OF ST. MAY THE LUCK BE WITH YOU: This auction fundraiser at the Vista at Van Patten Golf Course will benefit the Clifton Park Nursery School, a non-profit, cooperative preschool housed in a historic one room schoolhouse. The Clifton Park Nursery School has been offering play-based education for preschool-age children since 1960. The fundraiser features silent and live auction baskets including golf at Saratoga National, Van Patten, Edison Club, Eagle Crest, beer baskets, lottery ticket basket, staycations, museums and much more. NYS MILITARY MUSEUM: The New York State Military Museum will host programs that commemorate the nation’s centennial of combat operations in World War I and the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, along with topics of local interest this winter and spring. OPERA-TO-GO: Opera Saratoga’s Opera-to-Go productions allow students to experience the thrill of opera - up close and personal. Opera Saratoga’s production of “The Ugly Duckling” is a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale, with an original score by composer Andrew Duncan, feature soprano Carter Tholl, mezzo soprano Raphaella Medina, tenor Jordan Pitts, and baritone Nicholas Martorano. Brian Gilling serves as the music director and pianist. In addition to Opera Saratoga’s in-school performances, free public performances of “The Ugly Duckling” ensure families throughout the region have access to opera. A performance will be held on March 17 at 11 a.m. at Crandall Public Library, 251 Glen Street, Glens Falls.
RECOVERY DINNER/DANCE: a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner/ Dance will be held at the Hillcrest Firehouse, 145 Pryun Hill Road, Mechanicville. An Irish meal along with potluck starts the party at 6 p.m. There will be live music by David McClements, games, fellowship, a silent auction and more. No cover charge, no reservations. Donations will go to St. Luke’s on the Hill Recovery Resource Center.
ST.PATRICK’S DAY DINNER: Please join St. Edward’s Church at 567 Clifton Park Center Road for a Saint Patrick’s Day corned beef dinner. The event in the Saint Edward’s Social Hall is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus of St. Edward’s Church in Clifton Park. Proceeds from this dinner will go to support local charities. SARATOGA ADAPTIVE ICE SKATING PROGRAM: Differently-abled kids of all ages have been learning and practicing to skate since early January. On March 17 at 2 p.m. at the Weibel Arena in Saratoga Springs, the culmination of all their hard work will be showcased in their Olympicthemed ice show. Skaters, assisted by volunteers, will show off their newly acquired skills and demonstrate some fancy group footwork. The public is invited free of charge to cheer the skaters and volunteers on. The show will be followed by refreshments and some ‘puppy love’ from area therapy dogs and service dog pups in-training.

Drama Club presents “All Shook Up,” featuring the songs of Elvis Presley, in the high school’s Loewenberg Auditorium on March 17 at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. In addition to the talented students featured in the cast, crew and orchestra, “All Shook Up” is directed by Bob Berenis. AMERICA, LAND OF TRANSFORMATION: Samantha Bosshart, Executive Director of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, will be part of a panel discussion after a 4 p.m. showing of the 1939 short documentary, “The City,” accompanied by Aaron Copland’s musical score performed live by the Glens Falls Symphony at Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center. The panel discussion about themes presented in the film will be moderated by Maestro Charles Peltz and will also feature Janet Null, architect and former urban planner from Argus Architecture of Troy, and Jaclyn Hakes, urban planner with MJ Engineering and Land Surveying. WHO RESCUED WHO: Come to Fuccillo Nissan at 976 New Loudon Road in Latham between noon and 4 p.m. on March 18 and meet the birds! Birds are extremely intelligent and engaging pets, but unfortunately many that are purchased are soon given up by owners who are unprepared for the challenges that come with them. The Who Rescued Who! event is a great opportunity to spend time with the adoptable birds cared for at Northeast Avian Rescue (NEAR). HONORING DECEASED VETERANS: The late Air Force veteran Samuel Johnson, the husband of former Town of Day Supervisor MaryAnn Johnson, will be recognized during an Honoring Our Deceased Veterans ceremony at 2:30 p.m. at the Saratoga County offices in Ballston Spa. Johnson belonged to special operations groups and was involved with combat flight activities. The Honoring Our Deceased Veterans program recognizes veterans from a different town or city in Saratoga County on the third Tuesday of each month.

ALBANY LAW REVIEW SYMPOSIUM: The New York Court of Appeals recently rejected arguments in favor of legalizing physicianassisted suicide in Myers v. Schneiderman. The symposium “Reconsidering the Right to Die: The Debate Over Assisted Suicide” is a panel discussion featuring representatives of different disciplines and perspectives on a wide range of issues raised by aid-in-dying.
