SARATOGA SPRINGS - Carl Richard Grant passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018. Carl lost his 20 year battle with cancer, leaving this earth at Saratoga Hospital. He was 83. Born July 28, 1934 in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was the son of the late Clark and Margaret Mangold Grant. Carl was a lifetime resident of Saratoga Springs and attended St. Clement’s School. He was a member of the National Guard and worked for Tarrant Co., delivering and demonstrat­ing products such as the Gutter Shark. He also worked for NYRA – Saratoga Racecourse in various capacities for over 35 years until retirement. His primary responsibi­lity was racing surfaces and he took great pride in his work. Carl lived a great life surrounded by many friends and relatives. He was always there for anyone that needed a hand and seldom had to be asked. His nickname was Buddy and that says it all. In addition to his parents, Carl is pre-deceased by his brothers Clark “Sonny” Grant (Carol) of Glens Falls and Ernest Grant (Mary) of Saratoga Springs. He is survived by his wife Kathryn (Kitty) Robarge Grant; two sons, Jeffery Grant (Diane Kain) of Syracuse, NY and Timothy Grant (Janice Collins) of Alamosa, CO; two step-daughters, Regine Brosseau of Long Island and Dorine Caswell (Charles “Chip”) of Exeter, NH; two brothers, William Grant (Marie) of Naples, FL and Henry Grant (Susan) of Mahopac, NY; several grandchild­ren: Patrick Grant (Heather VanDusen) of Maryland, Phillip Grant of Charlotte, NC, Erin Grant of Saratoga Springs, Renee’ & Collin Grant of Alamosa, CO, Corine Rishkel (Joey) of Goshen, NY, Connor Brosseau of Long Island, NY, Carly & Caden Caswell of Exeter, NH; one great-granddaugh­ter Kali Grant of Maryland and his former wife Margaret Gailor Grant. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Monday, April 2, 2018 at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373). Funeral services will take place at 11am Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the funeral home and burial will be at a later date in Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in Carl’s memory to the Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center at Saratoga Hospital.
