SARATOGA SPRINGS - Edna Fernet passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Saratoga Hospital, with her family at her side. She was 97 years old. Edna was born on November 30, 1920, in Waterford to Charles and Agnes Sorensen Fisher. Her mother became ill shortly after Edna’s birth and died when Edna was 6 months old. She was then adopted and raised by Frank and Ida Morrison Horton in Troy. Edna graduated from Lansingbur­gh High School and went to work at Montgomery Ward until her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Frank Fernet , on August 28, 1942. They were married for almost 66 years until Frank’s death in 2008. She returned to work at the NYS Department of Labor where she worked for 25 years before her retirement. Edna was predecease­d by her husband, Frank Fernet, her birth parents, Charles and Agnes Sorensen, and her birth siblings, William and Charles Fisher and Elizabeth Kelefant, and her adopted and much loved parents, Frank and Ida Horton and siblings, Amy Allen, and George and Frank Horton as well as son in law John Bates. Edna, known to her family as Nana, is survived by her children Katherine Sandra Fernet Moody, Frances Fernet Bates and Dennis Fernet (Jodi). She is also survived by her grandchild­ren Glen, Todd (Laura), Mark Inglis (Lehra), Erin Rowe (Edmund), Heather and Holly Bates and Bryan and Sean Fernet (Katie) She is also survived by many great and great great grandchild­ren. We would also like to acknowledg­e her special in laws, Irv and Betty Derrick and Marion Breen. Also many nieces and nephews, especially Sally Geloso (Carl) and a very special friend, Loretta Kissane, for all the kindness and love they have shared with Edna. Edna resided in Lansingbur­gh until 1971 when she and Frank moved to Saratoga Springs where they enjoyed volunteeri­ng for the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, and the Red Cross. Edna enjoyed bowling, walking in the mall, shopping, eating out, doing crossword puzzles, volunteeri­ng in the Country Store and for other events at Woodlawn Common, where she lived for the last 9 years. She also loved going to the Racino with her friend Loretta. Above all, Edna and Frank enjoyed entertaini­ng their whole family and their many friends, at the holidays. It is a very special memory for all of us spending those times with our parents. Funeral services will be Monday at noon at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford. Interment will follow at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday prior to the funeral from 10 am till noon. Those who wish may make memorial contributi­ons to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, 6010 County Farm Rd., Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
