Saratoga Comic Con returns this weekend

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Due to ever-rising pop culture and comic book fan demand, the Spa City will host its seventh pop culture comic-con platform this weekend at the Saratoga Springs City Center.

Saratoga Comic Con will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the center, which is located at 522 Broadway in downtown Saratoga Springs.

Celebrity appearance­s will include Jason Mewes (who plays Jay, the vocal half of the duo Jay and Silent Bob in longtime friend Kevin Smith’s films), Marilyn Ghigliotti, and Scott Schiaffo from the cult classic film Clerks, former WWF/WWE wrestling superstar Tito Santana, Brian Harnois from Ghost Hunters, former Disney sculptor Erik Johnsen as well as Chad Rook from The Flash, Siren and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Several top comic book artists like Robert Bruno, Jim Lawson, Dave Ryan, Richard Ferguson, Charles Barnett III and Jay Mooers will be on hand too.

What many people love most about Saratoga Comic Con is the cosplay aspect. Cosplay groups The Montreal X-MEN and The Resident Evil Group will be is costume, along with Chelsea Von Chastity, Jennard Cosplays, The True Mr. J, Lady Bridget Cosplay, Coach Moses, Kranick Kosplay and lots of other amateur cosplayers, who can compete in the event’s cosplay contest.

Another big attraction at the upcoming event will be a life-sized Stranger Things Wall, from the popular series.

“We’re excited to be doing another year of Saratoga Comic Con,” said founder and organizer Samuel Chase of Chase Con Expo LLC. This company is dedicated to following the mold of the traditiona­l comic con while providing the perfect mix and experience of current pop culture events like Saratoga Comic Con.

there wasn’t one before.

“With our biggest celebrity ever Jason Mewes along with his Clerks co-star Marilyn Ghigliotti and Scott Schiaffo, Chad Rook from the Flash, Brian Harnois from Ghost Hunters and WWE hall of famer Tito Santana - we feel this will be our biggest show ever,” Chase said.

All are encouraged to come to this weekend’s event, because each show is different with new panels, celebritie­s, events and attraction­s, Chase said, “giving you a new experience each time with the same family friendly feeling.”

Additional­ly, the twoday event will feature vendors and dealers from all over the world, gaming including Super Smash Bros. tournament­s, The Resident Evil Umbrella Corp. Car, a bounce house and other pop culture fun!

An afterparty will be held from 6 p.m to midnight on Saturday at Gaffney’s 16 Caroline St. in Saratoga Springs.

Tickets will be available at the doors as supplies last on days of the event for $20 on Saturday, $15 on Sunday, or $30 for a weekend pass.

Speed Pass Tickets are also available for purchase online at these prices, guaranteei­ng no long lines and access into the show if it sells out.

Ticket packs, military, student and senior discounts are available online only.

All children six years and younger are free to attend.
