Southern Vermont College split a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) baseball doublehead­er against Dean College on Saturday at Trinity College’s DiBenedett­o Stadium as the Mountainee­rs won the opener 6-3 before falling 5-2. Junior centerfiel­der Zack Stacey (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs H.S.) went 1-for-2 in the opener and 1-for-4 with and RBI, stroking a double in each contest for Southern Vermont. Freshman third baseman Zac Cronk (Saratoga/ Saratoga Cemtral Catholic) went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the opener.

SHAKER GRAD MATT TRUDEAU SCORES FOR ONEONTA IN LOSS TO RPI

RPI 18, SUNY ONEONTA 6 >> The Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) men’s lacrosse team scored the first seven goals of the game and the No. 20 Engineers went on to defeat Oneonta, 18-6, in a non-league contest at East Campus Stadium. The victory was the eighth straight for RPI, which is now 8-1. The visiting Red Dragons fall to 4-5. Sophomore attack Owen Putman (Round Lake/ Shenendeho­wa) had two shots on goal and secured a ground ball for the Engineers in the win. Sophomore attack Matthew Trudeau (Watervliet/Shaker H.S.) scored a goal on his lone shot and grabbed a ground ball for the Red Dragons.

STONY BROOK 8, ST. JOHN’S 6 >>. Stony Brook senior captain Kyle Abdellatif (Ballston Spa/ Ballston Spa H.S.) righted the ship after the Sea Wolves loss Saturday to UAlbany, scoring a goal Tuesday against St. John’s at home. The long stick middie also secured two ground balls.

LEMOYNE 18, FRANKLIN PIERCE 6 >> LeMoyne sophomore middie Hans Zimmer (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa H.S.) had two assists and secured a ground ball for LeMoyne in Tuesday’s win. Franklin Pierce senior goal keeper Connor Wacksman (Guilderlan­d/Christian Brothers Academy) had two saves late.

SHEN GRAD LEXI KEEN EARNS WIN FOR SUNY ONEONTA TUESDAY

SUNY ONEONTA 17, NEW PALTZ 7 >> After spotting New Paltz a pair of early goals, Oneonta (4-4-1, 1-1 SUNYAC) stormed back with five unanswered to grab control of the contest. Sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/ Shenendeho­wa) turned back two our of the four shots she faced early in the Red Dragons win. She also secured a ground ball for SUNY Oneonta. Oneonta will be home this Saturday to face Oswego beginning at 1 p.m.

SHEN’S MCKENZIE WOERNER EARNS SPOT ON ALL-ACADEMIC SQUAD

EASTON, Mass. >> Five members of the Stonehill College field hockey program have been named to the ZAG Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Associatio­n (NFHCA) NCAA Division II National Academic Squad for their performanc­es in the classroom, while the program was one of 27 in Division II honored for having a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. McKenzie Woerner (Clifton Park, New York/ Shenendeho­wa) a chemistry major with a 3.76 GPA in her first semester at the Stonehill, started 16 of her 17 games played as a member of the Skyhawks defensive unit. She chipped in with one defensive save for the season for a defense that posted a 2.20 team goals against average with six shutouts and also earned a spot on the NE10 Commission­er’s and Athletic Director’s Honor Rolls. Stonehill finished its 2017 season with a 13-7 record overall, including 10-2 in the NE10, earning the program’s ninth NCAA Tournament bid after appearing in the NE10 semifinals for the fifthstrai­ght year
