SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. » In Saratoga County more than 6,000 homes were without power Thursday morning due to high winds, according to information from National Grid.

The National Weather Service said wind gusts of 44 miles per hour were reported at 4:50 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Wednesday in Saratoga County.

The agency said they received reports of down trees, power lines and roads closed as the area experienced a high-wind warning into Thursday.

In Ballston Spa, three utility poles had damage, which knocked out the power at the Sheriff’s building, the County’s animal shelter and highway garage.

Saratoga County Office of Emergency Services director

Carl Zeilman said crews had been working to restore power since Wednesday night.

“The county has emergency generators at each of those facilities, and they worked just as they were supposed to,” said Zeilman.

According to National Grid, there were few outages reported in Saratoga Springs.

Zeilman said the county didn’t receive widespread outages. In Northern Saratoga, in places like Providence, Galway and Edinburg, trees fell and caused problems, he said. A tree fell on a house in Edinburg, which Zeilman said was the most severe damage reported.

National Grid said 20,000 homes lost power in upstate New York’s east region, with most happening in Queensbury and close to Lake George.

National Grid said restoration times were fluid, Thursday morning, as they are still assessing situations throughout the area.

The company said they are working around the clock until everybody can get back online.
