Ogden Phipps II named to NYRA board
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Ogden Phipps II, the son of late New York Racing Association chairman and Jockey Club President Ogden Mills “Dinny” Phipps, has been named a NYRA board member.
His appointment, made at Wednesday’s board meeting, fills the vacancy created by the resignation of celebrity chef Bobby Flay.
Phipps, 40, is a fourth-generation thoroughbred owner and breeder who co-owns and manages Phipps Stable, based at Belmont Park. He is a co-founding partner of Snow Phipps, a private equity firm based in New York City.
In addition to his seat on numerous corporate boards, Phipps is a trustee of the Bessemer Trust, Bessemer Securities, Wake Forest University and New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
“Our family has always felt so fortunate to have enjoyed a long history with the New York Racing Association,” Phipps said in a statement. “NYRA plays a central role in driving the future of horse racing, and sets the industry example when it comes to constantly improving both the guest experience and quality of racing. I’m honored to be able to add my voice to this accomplished board and to play a direct role in bettering a sport that means so much to so many people.”
Flay had been on the board since 2012.
The 17-member board is chaired by Michael J. Del Giudice and includes Georgeanna Nugent and New York Thoroughbred Breeders Inc. Executive Director Jeffrey A. Cannizzo, both of Saratoga Springs.
Other board members are NYRA President and CEO Chris Kay, New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association President Joseph Appelbaum, Michael Dubb, C. Steven Duncker, Marc Holliday, Stuart S.
