BALLSTON SPA - W. Norman Hogan, 72, of Ballston Spa passed away unexpected­ly on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

Born in Schenectad­y on November 11, 1945, Norm was the son of the late Charles and Helen Conlin Hogan. Born and raised in Schenectad­y he was a graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School. Norm worked with his father and brothers in the restaurant business for many years. They owned and operated Hogan’s Townhouse and The City Squire, both located in Schenectad­y. In 1977, Norm and his wife purchased the Union Inn in Schenectad­y. This chapter of his life brought him much happiness and joy. He always loved meeting new people and made friends with everyone he met, no matter where he went. Upon the sale of The Union Inn, Norm began a new career working at DDSO Oswald D. Heck Developmen­tal Center as a Food Service Supervisor. His daily interactio­ns with the many residents of the facility brought him great fulfillmen­t. Norm retired in 2002 and enjoyed traveling the world with his beloved wife. They also spent time in Florida each winter. Norm is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Deborah Gidley Hogan. He is also survived by his adoring daughters, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Buscema of Saratoga Springs and Sarah (Douglas) Hulbert of Johnstown; four grandchild­ren, Joseph Norman Buscema, Marlaina Buscema, Steven Hulbert and Dylan Hulbert who were the apple of his eye; his sister, Mary Ellen Gidley of Phoenix, NY; three sisters-in-law, Margaret (Dick) O’Rourke, Mary Ann Hogan and Pamela (Mike) Russell and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Norm was predecease­d by his brothers, Charles and Robert Hogan.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, l867 State St. Schenectad­y. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
