Steady Saratoga baseball outlasts explosive Troy High, 12-9

TROY, N.Y. >> Troy High exploded for a seven-run fifth inning Wednesday afternoon at home to cut the Saratoga Springs lead, 9-7, but couldn’t overcome the early deficit and fell, 12-9 in Suburban Council action. The Blue Streaks were led by slugger Brian Hart with her 2-for-4 afternoon with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk. Brad Hipsley went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI with a walk and lead-off batter Christian Kondo went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two walks in the win. Flying Horse slugger Anthony Degiorgio went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, three RBI and a walk. Matt Ashely went 2-for-5 with a run. On the hill, Saratoga’s Alex Henderson earned the win, pitching four innings of onehit baseball. He struck out five and walked four. SHENENDEHO­WA 7, AVERILL PARK 0 >> Shenendeho­wa defeated Averill Park 7-0, as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. The Plainsmen were spurred by a threerun fifth. Shenendeho­wa. Joe Novenche and Matt Bishop plated all the runs with RBIs in the frame. One bright spot for Averill Park was a single by Jack Nichols in the first inning. Mitch Wright was the winning pitcher for Shen, surrenderi­ng zero runs on three hits over five innings, striking out six and walking zero. Colby Aiello led the Plainsmen with two hits. Jack Nichols went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Averill Park.

BURNT HILLS 14, SHAKER 1>> Jack Wyatt

Burnt Hills’ fired a one-hitter, fanning nine in five frames. Evan Bowers singled twice and plated two. Chewy Stubblebin­e doubled, singled and drove in two. Ryan Famum doubled and singled. Jeremy Clayton singled twice, drove in a run and scored three times.

LA SALLE 14, CATHOLIC CENTRAL 5 >> In a Colonial

Council affair, the Cadets topped the Crusaders 14-5. Cole Gorleski whiffed 10 on the bump for the Cadets. Noah Grandjean doubled twice, singled and scored three runs. Cory Listing singled twice, drove in two and scored a run. Connor Cepiel singled twice, plated a run and scored a run. For the Crusaders, JP Lynch doubled and singled. Paul Barber doubled, plated two and scored a pair of runs. Tom Thayer singled twice and scored a run. TAMARAC 6, HOOSICK FALLS 5 >> A four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, helped Tamarac edge Hoosick Falls 6-5. Ryan Derby collected a pair of hits and his two-run single plated Tristan Nemjo and Dalton Maxon for the Bengals amd the walk off win. Ryan Bloomer collected two hits, three-RBI and scored a run in a losing effort for Hoosick Falls. ALBANY ACADEMY 17, WATERVLIET 0 >> Three Albany Academy players hit triples in the lopsided shutout, Brett Young, E.J. Birch and Ethan Duda. Connor Mormrow earned the win for Albany Academy. BETHLEHEM 6, CBA 5 >> A four-run seventh inning tied the contest for Bethlehem, earning the win in extra innings Wednesday afternoon. Christian Brother’s Academy Drew Signor went 3-for-5 with a double, two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Bethlehem’s Peter McGinn went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI, David Garcia went 1-for-2 with a single, run scored and took three walks. SCHUYLERVI­LLE 11, JOHNSTOWN 3 >> Black Horses Stratton Sherman went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Jared Gregorek went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Johnstown’s Dom Disciosia went 2-for-2 with two RBI. WATERFORD-HALFMOON 8, CAMBRIDGE 4 >> The Fordians plated five runners in the third inning to take control and coast to the 8-4 win. Connor Houle led Waterford-Halfmoon at the plate with his 2-for-2 day with two runs sored, an RBI and a walk in the win. Michael Talavera stroked a double in his 1-for-4 day with an RBI. Thomas Phelan, was 1-for-4 with two runs scored, stroked a triple for the Fordians. MECHANICVI­LLE 13, STILLWATER 6 >> Matt Wertman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RB I for the Red Raiders in the win. Nick Billert went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Jacob Popiel went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Jacob Lafountain and Jacob Popiel combined for a one-hitter, striknig out 15 batters. Stillwater was led by Kenny Orton’s 1-for-3 day with a double and three RBI.

SOFTBALL

BALLSTON SPA 3, COLUMBIA 1 >> After leading off the contest with a run, Ballston Spa rallied with its own two-run second inning and tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth for the Suburban Council win. Ballston Spa’s Angelina “Ange” Stile hit a home run in the win with Columbia’s Meg Dogherty and Marissa Daley each hitting doubles. Blue Devil Maddie Burns had two hits in the loss with Scottie Paige Davis and Sarah Pritchard getting multiple base knocks in the win. In the circle, Sarah Pritchard earned the win, giving up five hits and striking out three with Angelina Stile behind the dish. Columbia’s Maddie Burns took the loss despite fanning 10 batters, giving up six hits in the contest with Marissa Daley as her receiver. MECHANICVI­LLE 14, STILLWATER 0 >> Mechanicvi­lle’s Erin Salvadore spun a no-hitter and fanned five in Mechanicvi­lle’s victory. Salvadore also helped her own cause at the dish, collecting a home run, double, single and two-RBI. Patty Snyder notched a pair of singles and a RBI. Makayla Nadler singled and drove in a pair. Savannah Bowie and Lea Hickey both recorded a hit and a RBI apiece. Kylie Welcome fanned three for Stillwater in the loss. GREENWICH 12, BERLIN 0 >> In Wasaren League action, Greenwich blanked Berlin 12-0. Lauren Maines paced the Greenwich offense, going 4-for-4 with two-RBI. Courtney Fraher went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI as well. Devin Drew also went 3-for-4. Helen Smith was credited with the victory, whiffing 10 batters in five frames. CATHOLIC CENTRAL 5, HOLY NAMES 0 >> The Crusaders’ Jane Field had a big day on the bump, tossing a one-hitter with 13 K’s. Catholic Central also went to work with the bats. Erin Kelley tripled, singled and scored a pair of runs. Sammi Allen was a home run shy of the cycle and knocked in two runs. Kegan Nadeau singled twice and scored a run. CAMBRIDGE 11, WATERFORD 3 >> Cambridge topped Waterford 11-3. Cambridge was paced by Miranda Seacord and her solo home run and 12 K’s on the rubber slab. Kayla Giglio also contribute­d three singles for the Indians. E. Kelley got it done with the bat, notching two hits, driving in two runs and fanned five on the mound for the Fordians.
