Some paint might help with parking woes
As so many of us realize, downtown Saratoga Springs is getting more congested. Current discussion relates to the concept of paid parking. There is frustration with finding a parking space in the downtown area, both during the day and in the evening. Many people are now are even more upset with the thought that in addition to the difficulty in finding a parking place, we will have to pay for it. There is a strong temptation to look for other locations to shop and dine.
One relatively inexpensive way to “create” more parking spaces is with paint. If the approptiate city department can find some paint, parking spaces could be delineated along the streets. Too often there are two cars are using the space for three cars since there are no boundaries for the spaces.
A somewhat related topic is traffic flow. As more cars tend to be driving, the traffic flow gets more congested. Here more paint might help. Heavily travelled intersections with a traffic light could use two lanes approaching the light. One lane for left turns, and one for right and straight ahead movement. Often, traffic is backed up waiting for a left turning car so no one goes anywhere.
It would be useful if inexpensive methods could be used to create parking spaces and move traffic more efficiently.
