ROBERTA EVELYN YOUNG SHAFER

SARATOGA SPRINGS - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Roberta Evelyn Young Shafer, on Friday, April 13, 2018. Bobbi was born in Oceanside, NY, August 28, 1937, the daughter of Raymond William Young and Evelyn Grimsey Young. She was raised in Freeport, Baldwin, and West Islip, NY, graduating from Baldwin HS in 1955. A graduate of Skidmore College in 1959, she earned a BS in Health and Physical Education and taught in New York and Virginia high school systems. Her marriage to Clark B. Shafer of Saratoga Springs was held at the Church of the Transfiguration in Freeport, NY on March 25, 1961. Over the ensuing years she was an active participant in numerous education and community activities including the Navy League, YMCA youth sports, Scouting, PTA, the Association for Children With Learning Disabilities and Skidmore Alumni Association. Bobbi is survived by her husband Clark and three children: William B. Shafer (Laura) of Keene NH, Robert Y. Shafer (Carolyn) of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Lauren Clark Shafer Allembert (Scott) of Whitingham VT. She shared boundless love as “Nana” to her six grandchildren, Sandy, Robyn, Emma, Will, Keegan, CC, and great grand-daughter Leilani. We pray that our Bobbi may take her place with The Angels, and be blessed with Everlasting Peace. The Order For A Requiem Eucharist will be at 10am Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Bethesda Episcopal Church, 41 Washington St., Saratoga Springs, celebrated by The Very Reverend Marshall J. Vang. Burial will follow at 12noon at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Ave., Schuylerville. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J.
