The Klam’r Tavern and Marina sets grand opening
Business recently opened at former site of Hoss’ River House and the Klamsteam Tavern & Marina
HALFMOON, N.Y. » A longtime local hangout is back up and running as The Klam’r Tavern and Marina, with a grand opening celebration set for this weekend.
The 32 Clamsteam Road riverfront site, located in the West Crescent neighborhood of Halfmoon, reopened last month as The Klam’r Tavern and Marina. This space, which dates back to the 1930s, was most recently known as Hoss’ River House, but most locals remember it best as the Klamsteam Tavern & Marina.
When new owners Paul Dubec and his wife Nicole Lanoue took over they decided to name it The Klam’r a nickname that they used to call the old establishment.
“We’re trying to bring it back to what it once was,” said manager and chef Bob Spanswick.
All are invited to come check out the new The Klam’r Tavern and Marina, which has been fully renovated, this Saturday at a grand opening party. Festivities including live music, giveaways, raffles, food and drink specials will take place from noon to midnight on Saturday at the tavern.
The business includes a family-friendly dining room, a bar area, patio seating anticipated to open soon, and the outdoor marina.
Boaters can dock at the marina while they stop in The Klam’r Tavern, or call ahead for dockside delivery service from one of the only places to eat along the Mohawk River, located between Lock 6 and Lock 7.
Local boaters can also inquire about renting dock space at the marina for the season.
The restaurant menu features burgers made with local meat, wings, quesadillas, soups, salads, sandwiches and fresh daily fish - including the eatery’s famous steamed clams, sourced from Rhode Island and served with drawn butter.
The Klam’r also has daily specials such as its Polish Blue Plate, chicken parm dinner, baby back ribs, Chicken Shish Ke-Bob’s and roast turkey dinner.
“All homecooked authentic comfort foods,” said Spanswick, adding that the cuisine is made in a scratch kitchen and sold at very reasonable prices.
Owners Dubec and Lanoue, who live nearby, wanted to open “a nice neighborhood hometown restaurant and bar” with a relaxed family-friendly atmosphere for their guests.
Since opening about a month ago, they’ve received overwhelming support from the local community, which they greatly appreciate.
“The community has really supported us,” said Dubec, who is happy to provide a comfortable place for his neighbors to enjoy and feel like they’re home.
“Take me home Clamsteam Road,” Dubec likes to say of the new Klam’r Tavern and Marina.
The Klam’r Tavern and Marina is open from 3 to 11 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, 3 p.m. to midnight on Friday, noon to midnight on Saturday and noon to 11 p.m. on Sundays.
Following the celebration this weekend, The Klam’r Tavern expects to offer live music on a regular basis in the future.
