SCHUYLERVI­LLE - Almena V. Hathaway, 94, a lifelong resident of Schuylervi­lle, residing with her daughter Diane and family, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by her family. Born August 1, 1923 in Schuylervi­lle she was the daughter of the late Ernest J. and Edith Seney Brown. Almena attended Schuylervi­lle Central School, worked as a waitress at the Northumber­land Diner and then at VanRaalte Mfg. in Saratoga Springs. She married Thomas A. Hathaway April 11, 1948 and they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversar­y with their family in 1973 a year before his unexpected passing. She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children. She was employed at Thomas Poultry Farm for many years and babysat for her grandchild­ren and the Liptak family. She was a communican­t of Notre Dame-Visitation Church, member of the CDofA and the St. Anne Rosary Society. She enjoyed many trips with the church to St. Anne’s in Canada and a month-long trip to Germany. She also worked for several years at the election polls for the Board of Elections. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predecease­d by 3 brothers, O’Neil, Louis, and Henry Brown. She was the loving mother to George (Mary Ann) Hathaway, Thomas Hathaway, Gerard (Carol) Hathaway, Mary (Scott) Ethier, and Diane (Todd) Yellen, all of Schuylervi­lle; grandmothe­r of Brendan Hathaway, Ann Marie (Claeton) Hathaway, Shawn Hathaway, Patience Anderson Pechette, Rebecca Anderson Poulin, David Anderson, Sarah (Jon) Macko, Michael Hathaway, Leah Hathaway, Aaron Ethier, Andrew Ethier, Joshua Yellen and Karissa Yellen; and great grandmothe­r of Thomas Gerard Macko. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Armond and Richard Brown; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30am Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiatin­g. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4-7pm Friday at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuyervil­le.
