Trio of Cadets commit to college
TROY, N.Y. » It was a huge afternoon for a trio of La Salle Cadets student athlete’s ready continue their academic and athletic endeavors on campus in the fall of 2018. Evan Kimble will row for the University of Delaware. David Hamlin will play soccer at The College of Saint Rose. Derek McMahon will play baseball at SUNY Cobleskill.
As one would expect, all three were excited at what the future holds in store for them.
Staying local is Hamlin, who’s been playing soccer for the Cadets since he was in the seventh grade. Hamlin has been a First Team All Colonial Council honoree for three consecutive years, including a runner-up MVP.
“I’m really excited to start my new chapter, not only in my athletics but also further my academic career,” the Cadets captain said. “I’m excited that I can do it close by with my family and friends. It’s been a long, long trek with the recruiting process but it’s finally almost there, so I’m really excited.”
Hamlin also appeared ready to take on the challenge of NE10 competition.
“I’m fully expecting to work extremely hard. I really like the coach, the conference that they play in, the NE10 is arguably the best Division Two conference in the nation so obviously I’m going to have to work for my spot and improve every day to try and make the team better and then try to win as a team,” Hamlin said.
Rowing down to Delaware is Kimble, who started his rowing career started with the Albany Rowing Center for three years prior to joining the Saratoga Rowing Association.
“I’m extremely excited. I’ve worked really hard for the past four years and it’s just a great accomplishment to be able to row for a Division I program next year,” Kimble said.
“I know it’s going to be a lot more difficult than it is now, possibly double the work but I think I’m ready,” the winner of the New York State
Scholastic Rowing Championship Regatta, Kimble said. “I’ve worked really hard it’s kind of time in someone’s life, senior year that you’re ready to move up to a higher level program.”
Heading to SUNY Cobleskill is the equally excited McMahon.
“I’m really excited. Cobleskill’s a great school, great academics,” McMahon said. “I’m looking forward to playing next year.”
Like his classmates Hamlin and Kimble, McMahon is ready to step it up at the next level.
“Definitely to work harder. Definitely looking to show my talent and definitely looking for the motivation to keep going, keep pushing,” said McMahon.
