Sentence for fatal car crash
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » A Hudson Falls man was sentenced Wednesday to five to 15 years in state prison for a fatal car crash that claimed the life of a 16-yearold passenger last Aug. 31 on Bluebird Road in Moreau.
Christopher R. Miranda, 19, was driving 104 mph in an intoxicated condition when the crash occurred, also seriously injuring a 14-year-old passenger, authorities said.
He had been convicted of second-degree manslaughter and first-degree vehicular assault, both felonies.
Saratoga County Court Judge James Murphy III declined to adjudicate Miranda as a youthful offender.
The five- to 15-year sentence is for the manslaughter charge. Concurrently, he will serve two to six years for vehicular assault.
He is also subject to a mandatory driver’s license revocation
and was ordered to pay restitution.
Authorities say Miranda intentionally over-steered his car, a 2007 Chevy Malibu, causing it to “drift” across the road. He lost control and crashed off the roadway.
“Miranda’s clear wanton disregard for the safety of others in his car and on the roadway demanded a significant prison sentence and although no amount of time will bring (the victim) back to his family, hopefully they can find some measure of justice with the sentence,” said Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen.
