AMHERST, MASS. >> Marcos Campos and Joe Drpich each tallied three hits and Phil Madonna scored three runs as the top three hitters in the order propelled Siena Baseball past UMass 5-1 in Amherst. Campos also scored twice while Drpich drove in a pair to pace the Saints. Five Siena (8-26) hurlers scattered eight hits and just one run in a solid staff effort. Matt Pierce fired three scoreless innings to headline the performanc­e, while Tim Zehnbauer tossed two scoreless frames to pick up the win. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Danny Hobbs (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs H.S.) pitched the final two innings, giving up a run on two hits, facing eight batters in his night’s work. Junior center fielder Matt Hamel (Gansevoort/Christian Brothers Academy) went 1-for4 for the Saints in the win.

Senior midfielder Matt Graham (Poughquag, N.Y./ Arlington) added three goals and a helper for the victors. BENNINGTON, VT >> Southern Vermont College freshman Alexandria Safford (Ballston Lake/Burnt HillsBalls­ton Lake H.S.) was chosen by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) as both the league’s Player and Rookie of the Week for the period ending April 15, 2018 as announced on Monday. Safford is collecting the rookie honor for the secondstra­ight week, and she is the second Mountainee­r to collect both accolades this season. Through SVC’s three games last week, Safford amassed 14 goals, eight ground balls, four draw controls, two caused turnovers, and an assist. She connected on 78.3 percent of her 23 total shots and helped the Mountainee­rs to a 2-1 week. The Southern Vermont freshman tallied seven goals on eight shots in a close 11-9 win at Mass. College of Liberal Arts on Thursday, and she followed that with six goals and an assist during an NECC win at Dean College on Saturday. Against DC, Safford also registered four ground balls and three draw controls. She currently leads the Mountainee­rs in goals scored (27) and ranks third in all of the NECC.
