SPAC plans to boost security this summer
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.» Saratoga Performing Arts Center is bumping up security for the summer season.
SPAC recently announced that in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, it has increased security and safety measures in and around the venue in advance of its upcoming 2018 event season.
Earlier this month a week-long active shooter training exercise led by New York State Parks Police and City of Saratoga Springs Police Department was held on SPAC’s grounds. New York State Police, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and civilian partners also participated in the trainings focused on joint coordination and emergency response during several simulated scenarios envisioning an active shooter.
In addition to the training exercises, new physical barriers will be installed this spring to protect pedestrians against vehicular traffic at all of the venue gates. The venue entrances at Route 50 and the Hall of Springs will also be closed from May 11 through Oct. 5 to improve the security of the facility.
These efforts are being made for the safety and security of park and venue guests
“State Parks’ utmost priority is the safety of our visitors,” said New York State Park Police Chief David Page in a news release. “Simulation exercises, emergency response training and regular strategic communications are just some of the tools and resources utilized in our routine and regular partnership with law enforcement and civilian partners to police large-scale events and respond to emergencies. These efforts will increase our chances in ensuring our visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience.”
SPAC president and CEO Elizabeth Sobol added, “Thanks to our collaboration with local police agencies and our partners at State Parks, we have taken additional security measures in advance of this year’s concert season. Our audiences cherish the many experiences that they share on our grounds. Our goal is to ensure that we are creating the safest space possible for our guests who attend our world-class classical performances and rock and pop concerts.”
