TROY, N.Y. » Local star Moriah Formica is ready to kick off to downtown Troy’s 2018 Rockin’ on the River concert series.

A former contestant on popular television show “The Voice,” the teenager is now back in her home area performing local gigs, including the upcoming first installment of the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District’s popular Rockin’ on the River series on Wednesday June 6 in in Riverfront Park.

The series will continue on Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. through Aug. 8 in the park, located between historic downtown Troy and the scenic Hudson River, providing nine weeks of free family-friendly live music with sunset views of the waterfront.

Formica is the first on a roster of talented musicians and performers, both local and national, emerging and seasoned- all excited to give Troy concert goers a great time.

Formica is expected to lead a new season providing an energetic experience for the community of downtown Troy.

Born and bred in the Capital Region, this young artist began singing at the age of 6, and picked up the guitar easily by the time she was 12 years old, before gaining nationwide fame on the 13th season of NBC’s The Voice.

The 17 year-old belts soulful, gritty, Pat Benatar-esque performances while shredding her guitar. She has performed numerous covers and originals live and for recordings – including a 2016 EP “Bring It On” -- long before she auditioned for “The Voice.” She aims to engage, speak to people’s hearts and give them something to remember. Formica said, “Music can unite everybody, I believe.”

Another locally-based female rocker Margo Macero will be the opening act for Formica. Macero has been playing guitar since the age of seven and has been an active performing artist since the age of 12. Niece to Teo Macero, a revolutionary producer for Columbia Records, she carries music in her blood. She began attending the Berklee College of Music in 2010 and went on to release a five song EP, titled, “It is What It Is.” at just 19 years old. She is known to deliver bone chilling performances with power house vocals and aggressive guitar solos of emotion.

“We are excited to offer an eclectic range of music yet again this year,” said Katie Hammon, executive director of the Downtown Troy BID, in a press release. “A lineup ranging from classic rock, country, afro jazz, indie pop and folk music. We welcome new and returning guests to Troy’s historic walkable downtown for this premier annual summer concert series.”
