Siena volleyball adds Section 2 talent
LOUDONVILLE, NY » Siena Volleyball Head Coach Vilis Ozols announced the addition of four to the program. The four are Maddy Dunigan, Meg Giordano, Abby Huffman and Naesha-Lashay Kelley.
“Maddy is a long and physical player who is positioned to come into our program as a key contributor,” Ozols said. “She has great intensity and a desire to grow and develop and she will make her presence felt the moment she arrives at Siena.”
Dunigan comes to Siena from Averill Park, New York. She was a four-year varsity middle blocker at Averill Park High School. She was named a Section 2 All-Star Suburban Council member in 2015. The following year, she was named a First Team Suburban All-Star. At the Schoharie Tournament, Dunigan was named the MVP in both 2016 and 2017. She was the team MVP in both 2016 and 2017, while also being named a Suburban Council Second Team All-Star in 2017. Dunigan broke a 30-year kill record with 1276 during her senior season.
“Meg has a quiet confidence and determination that are won-
derful traits in a setter,” stated Ozols. “I suspect that she will use those characteristics, combined with her wonderful setting motion and accuracy to quickly become an integral part of Siena Volleyball.”
Giordano is a setter from Wilbraham, Massachusetts. She was a fouryear varsity player at Minnechaug Regional High School where she was also captain her senior season. She was the Western Massachusetts Player of the Year following the 2017-18 season. Giordano was named to the Western Mass All-Star Team, was named All-State and AllWestern Mass selection. She played club volleyball and attended the USA Junior National Championship in 2015 and 2017. Giordano also played in the AAU National Championship in 2016. The past two years, she has been a member of the New England Region High-Performance Team.
“Abby has played at the highest level of open volleyball in Northern California,” noted Ozols. “She has a wonderful personality that coupled with her volleyball IQ, her quickness and physicality will help her impose herself into the lineup and onto our conference.”
A native of San Rafael, California, Huffman comes to the Saints as a middle, right side. She earned the Most Improved Player her sophomore year at Terra Linda High School. Huffman was named All-Conference Honorable Mention and Second Team AllConference following her junior and senior year, respectively. She also earned Marin Independent Journal Prep of the Week. Huffman was the Flight 2B USA Division Champion at 2017 18’s GJNC (Girls Junior National Championship) and also qualified for the 2018 GJNC (American Division).
“Naesha has been a foundation of her High School’s volleyball success throughout her whole career and I know that she will bring that energy and drive to our program,” Ozols said. “She is very athletic and quick and she brings a defensive intensity that will make her presence immediately felt in our gym.”
Kelley is a two-time AllStar being named to both the first team and second team. She earned the AllLeague Foothills Council All-Star. The libero/defensive specialist has also been the East Coast Championship silver medalist. The Hudson Falls, New York native also earned the open gold medal for her club volleyball team. Kelley was on the Prom Court at Hudson Falls High School and was on the honor roll all four years.
