Spa City man gets 30 years in prison
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » A Saratoga Springs man who broke into two homes in an attempt to have nonconsensual contact with the women inside is facing 30 years in prison, authorities said.
Ramiz T. Hajratalli, 32, was sentenced Friday in Saratoga County Court to the maximum sentence — 30 years in prison. He was also ordered to have five years of post-release supervision
In February, a Saratoga County Jury found Ramiz T. Hajratalli, 32, guilty of two counts of second-degree burglary, a felony, and two counts
of fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.
A news release from Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office said that during the trial, prosecutors proved Hajratalli — who did not know the victims — burglarized the homes in an effort to have nonconsenual physical or sexual contact with the women sleeping inside.
The release said though the victims were not injured, they spoke in court Friday about the terrible effect the burglaries have had on their lives.
One of the victims, Kathy Henry, discussed the sleep deprivation, fear and anxiety she regularly experiences, the release said. According to the release, she said, “there is no [sentence] in the world that can be given that can reverse the pain, heartache and permanent emotional scars that Ramiz Hajratalli’s actions have caused me and my family and how it has negatively impacted our daily lives.”
While reviewing the case, the release said, Judge James Murphy III told Hajratalli “You are everyone’s worst nightmare.”
Hajratalli entered a residence on Caroline Street on July 29. Hajratalli pried open the door to Nina Haelen’s apartment, and entered the bedroom where she was sleeping. Hajratalli fled when Haelen woke up and yelled at him, authorities said.
On Aug. 11, Saratoga Springs police officers said Hajratalli was arrested after illegally entering a home and getting into a physical altercation with a resident.
Police said officers were sent to the corner of Ludlow Street and Jumel Place for a physical altercation shortly after midnight Aug. 11. The officers found Hajratalli and Paul Kisselbrack, a resident of Jumel Place.
Kisselbrack informed officers that, just a few minutes earlier, he had been asleep with his girlfriend when he was awoken by an odd noise in his bedroom, police said. He woke up, observing Hajratalli standing at the threshold of his bedroom, staring at them, police said. He yelled at Hajratalli, who quickly fled the house, police said. Kisselbrack chased and caught Hajratalli at Ludlow Street and Jumel Place, police said, and neighbors called 911.
