Moreau Lake park events set for June

MOREAU, N.Y. » The following events are planned for Moreau Lake State Park in June.

June 4: Kids Birding (9 a.m.) Walk to a songbird viewing blind with binoculars and bird field guides and try to scope out the birds. Fee is $1 per child.

June 6: Moreau After Dark (8-9:30 p.m.) Explore the park after the sun sets. This program is intended for families of all ages and includes a short hike around Moreau Lake in the dark, looking and listening for nocturnal animals. Flashlight­s and/or headlamps are recommende­d and bug spray. Fee is $1 for children and seniors, $2 for adults.

June 7: Knee High Naturalist (10 a.m. and 1 p.m.) This class is intended for children ages 1-6 and their parents/guardians along with any siblings. Includes short story or two based on the outdoors followed by a short hike. Fee is $1 per child.

June 7: Moreau Kayak Trip (2-4 p.m.) Park Naturalist will lead this beginner’s paddle around the lake.

June 9: Lake Bonita Hike (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) This hike is about 2-plus miles. Rating: beginner to moderate.

June 14: Moreau Kayak Trip (2-4 p.m.) Park Naturalist will lead this beginner’s paddle around the lake.

June 14: Composting 101 (7-8 p.m.) A beginner course to learn how to compost with master gardener, Marcia Martin. Learn the benefits of composting and how it can help your garden and reduce your trash. Fee is $1 children and seniors, $2 for adults.

June 19: Critter Crawl (10 a.m.) Join a park educator to walk by a creek, looking under logs and rocks searching for critters. Fee is $1 children and seniors, $2 for adults.

June 28: Full Moon Hike (7:30-9:30 p.m.) Park naturalist will lead this walk around the lake pointing out flora and fauna as the sun is setting and the moon is rising. Program fees apply. Rating: beginner.

June 29: Hudson River Kayak (10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) Park naturalist will lead this paddle along the river pointing out signs of wildlife while teaching kayak strokes and safety.

June 30: Moreau Fishing Trip (9 a.m.-noon) Only 2 seats are available in the boat. Call to reserve one.
