By Glenn Griffith CLIFTON PARK, NY » After much review and discussions with user groups, the Town Board has awarded a contract to make improvements to the Kids Corner section of the Playground on the Common.

The $76,000 contract was awarded to Play by Design, an Ithaca company, at the May 21 Town Board meeting.

The playground, known affectionately as Castle Park because of the look of its towers, is behind the Prestige Services Arena (town ice rink) on the Common. It was constructed in the late 1980s as a community build project from a pre-cut kit of playground equipment. Inscribed walkway bricks to fund it were part of the build also.

Play by Design is a firm with a connection to the equipment’s original manufacturer. Though no equipment has been selected and a design has yet to be approved, Town Supervisor Philip Barrett believes the finished look of the renovation will have a good visual connection to the rest of the playground.

The section to be renovated is the tiny tot area for children two to five years old. The area is close to the playground’s parking spots. In addition to removing the old equipment, which is a mix of painted wood platforms, a slide, and “stepping stone” tires, a new base of thick, “rubber

than age 15 is free. There will be a children’s activity tent sponsored by The Fun Spot on site, as well as the Lake George Skateboard Park and a playground located just outside the festival gates.

A portion of all ticket proceeds this year will be donated to the newly designated beneficiary of the festival, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Southern Adirondacks (BBBS). Volunteers from BBBS will also raise money at the festival from the sales of “Drink Local, Eat Local, Think Local” souvenir festival T-shirts and water donated by Lake George Premium Brand.
