Cohoes event helps raise funds for organizations
COHOES, N.Y. » More than 400 children and adults ran a mile through color, for a good cause, Saturday morning at Cohoes High School.
The Cohoes Color Run raised money for PTA/ PTO groups at the elementary schools and the middle school in the Cohoes school district.
“Everybody from all the different schools come together, and they’re having a great time throwing color at each other,” said co-chair of the event, Lisa Majer. “[There are] friends from different schools that don’t see each other very often, just through sports; so this is a good time for them to come together and have fun.”
Money raised from the event helps pay for buses to field trips, extra items for classrooms, and various other items to help offset costs.
Abram Lansing School, Harmony Hill, Van Schaisck, along with the middle school, hosted the fundraiser. Typically each school raises a couple thousand dollars each, which Majer said helps tremendously.
Registration was $30 for each participant. There also were 50/50 raffles at the event.
Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse and district Superintendent Jennifer Spring spoke to the crowd before the race began.
Color runs typically use a cornstarch dust that is colored with a food dye.
Mark Perry, principal of Harmony Hill Elementary School, said the fundraiser helps kids with some well-needed
The event Saturday, however, served an additional purpose.
“It’s just happy. It’s a fun event. It’s a long, long school year, and we’re getting to the end,” said Perry. “It’s a nice culminating for the whole district. It’s just a happy, nice event.” resources.
