THOMAS H. CANNON

BALLSTON SPA Thomas H. Cannon, 71, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018. Born in Albany, NY on June 5, 1947, he was the son of John and Eleanor Cannon. Tom officially joined the Delaware and Hudson Railway after serving in Vietnam, and later joined Penn Central Railroad in 1968. He became a locomotive engineer in 1971 working on the run between Albany and Boston. Tom served 18 years as a local UTU chairman and more than seven years as a general chairman. Tom trained many new locomotive engineers and was a valuable resource of information to his railroad community. After his retirement, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs, remodeling his home, fishing, attending horse races and his grandson’s motorcycle competitions. He was predeceased by his parents John and Eleanor, his first wife Diane L. Cannon and sister Gina Mallare. Tom is survived by his wife Diane J. Cannon, children John Cannon of Jacksonville, FL, Jeff Cannon (Michelle) of Jacksonville, FL, Tami Cannon (Tom Cordero) of Ballston Spa, Ryan Cannon (Kate Sartin) of Greenwich and Alicia Cannon of Atkinson, NH; stepdaughters Karen Marcaurelle and Kim Folia (Matt); grandchildren Sativa, Jessica, Jared, Izzy, Jared, Matthew, Gracie and Leia; siblings Joanie Sheldon, John Cannon, Joyce Prichard and Judy Cannon; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, June 14 from 4pm to 7pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A memorial service will be held at 10am Friday, June 15 at the funeral home. A gathering will be held at 2 Kaatskill Way, Ballston Spa, following the service at the funeral home.
