Polo event to feature Saratoga’s ‘top dog’

GREENFIELD, N.Y. » Saratoga Polo Associatio­n’s 120th season begins Friday, July 6 with matches planned every Friday and Sunday through Sept. 2 at the historic Whitney Field at 2 Bloomfield Road.

A full lineup of activities is planned this summer including a first-ever Dog and Pony Cup Show to determine Saratoga’s “top dog” on Sunday, July 15, presented by AIM Services Inc.

The dog show will start promptly 4:45 p.m. followed by the polo match at 5:30 p.m. Dog friendly vendors will be setup throughout the event. There is also an additional pre-event photo contest for Saratoga’s top dog.

The show is open to all canines, big and small. Categories include:

*Dog That Looks Most Like its Owner, Dog That Looks Least Like its Owner, Best Trick, Happiest Dog and Best of Show. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

The event is a fundraiser for AIM Services programs that support the “power of potential” in people of diverse abilities.

In celebratio­n of the associatio­n’s 120th anniversar­y, renowned Saratoga Springs artist Frankie Flores is creating a signature painting that will be showcased on the front cover of Equicurean Magazine, in posters, on apparel, and as one-of-akind artist paintings.

This year the Adelphi Hotel is partnering with Saratoga Polo. Cross-promotions with Veuve Clicquot are planned at Whitney Field and the hotel.

B-rads Bistro & Catering is the 2018 tournament season caterer.

Also this year, there will be four tailgate decorating contests as well as a Whitney weekend hat contest.

The U.S. Polo Associatio­n shop, in the clubhouse, has an exclusive line of 120th anniversar­y apparel with hats, shirts, dresses, as well as souvenir balls and posters for gifts.

The season’s highlight is the 120th anniversar­y party scheduled for Whitney Cup Sunday, Aug. 5, featuring owners and special guests from the past 40 years. The Whitney Cup trophy will arrive by helicopter.

• Aug. 17, 19: The Ylvisaker Cup Tournament

• Aug. 24, 26: The Saratoga Special Tournament

• Aug. 31, Sept. 2: Polo Hall of Fame Tournament
