Ballston Spa Scotties lead NYS softball all-stars

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » 36 Section II softball players were honored Tuesday when the 2018 New York State Sportswrit­er Associatio­n released its All-State selections with Ichabod Crane’s Calista Phippen taking Class B Player of the Year honors along with Coach Tracy Nytransky also honored as Coach of the Year in Class B.

The Section II champion and Final Four Class AA Ballston Spa Scotties saw junior Angelina Stile earn first-team honors with teammate and freshman Ana Gold named to the second team with Colonie senior Alexis Szesnat.

Shenendeho­wa sophmore center fielder Emily Carroll earned third-team honors with Ballston Spa senior third baseman Grace Thompson and Shenendeho­wa senior second baseman Megan Gillooley named to the the fourth-team.

Columbia senior hurler Maddie Burns was a fifth-team selection with Troy sophomore catcher Maddie Rifenberic­k was named to the sixth-team.

South Glens Falls senior pitcher Maddie Capozucca was a Class A first-team selection with Averill Park’s dynamic duo, junior Jayden Lee and senior Kylie Gavitt receiving second-team honors.

South High senior catcher Hannah Mosher was a thirdteam selection with senior teammate and first baseman Julia

Julia Thompson named to the fourth-team. Lansingbur­gh junior pitcher Julia Thompson was a fifth-team selection.

Class B senior pitcher Calista Phippen was a firstteam selection along with her junior shortstop, Gabbie Cox.

Schuylervi­lle sophomore pitcher Teagan Andrews, senior catcher Caitlin Kelleher and junior utility player Jenna Downey were all named to the second-team Class B squad.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons’ junior pitcher Jai Santiago and Tamarac junior shortstop McKenna Ryan were named to the Class B fifth-team unit.

Class C was led by Greenville senior pitcher Ava Fitzmauric­e and Maple Hill senior centerfiel­der Arianna Papas who received first-team honors.

Maple Hill junior pitcher Alysa Houghtalin­g and Greenville junior center fielder Caila Benning were second-team selections with Chatham junior catcher Brooke-Lyn Doyle and Lake George junior pitcher Rebecca Jaeger named to the thirdteam squad.

Lake George senior third baseman Maddi Mann was named to the Class C fourth-team unit with Cairo-Durham centerfiel­der Jenna Poulson selected to the fifth-team.

It was too tough a decision to make in Class D so junior pitcher Kayla Bailey and Coach Jason Humiston each shared in Player and Coach of the Year honors.

Bailey was joined on the Class D first-team squad by Salem senior catcher/short stop Lauren Christiens­en and Fort Ann sophomore shortstop Sarah Paige.

Salem junior pitcher Kyndra Richie, Fort Ann junior Amanda Godfrey and Fort Plain sophomore pitcher Michaela Stockwell were named to the secondteam. Whitehall senior pitcher Hannah Bascue was named to the Class D fifth-team unit.
