Local man threatened school: DA
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » A former Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District student recently admitted to threatening to commit murder at a school, authorities said.
Joseph P. Rossi, 20, of 38 Maplewood Drive, Charlton, pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court on Tuesday to attempting to make a terrorist threat.
In April, authorities said the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by several concerned individuals, reporting that they or their children had seen disturbing posts on social media. Specifically, people reported seeing Snapchat photos and videos allegedly posted by Rossi of a threatening and disturbing nature, authorities said.
A news release issued Thursday by the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office said Rossi admitted that on April 8 he attempted to intimidate a civilian population by posting an online video where he threatened to commit murder at a Burnt HillsBallston Lake school.
Rossi is schedukled to be sentenced Aug. 8. He is expected to receive 5 years of probation with mental health and substance abuse terms. A permanent order of protection, which will prohibit him from visiting school properties or contacting employees or students, is also expected, a news release said.
