WILTON, N.Y. » On Saturday, thousands of people spent a beautiful summer day at ParkFest.

Amy Vincek, from Wilton, spent the afternoon with her son, Lucas. Lucas enjoys the rides, the pig races and fire trucks at the event the most.

The fireworks, one of the highlights from the day, ended festivities. Vincek said her family lives down the road from the park, so they watch the fireworks there.

The free event — which celebrated Wilton’s bicentennial — at Gavin Park featured a Bicentennial Park including an encampment, re-enactments, old time photos, period characters, crafters, games and musical entertainment “through the years” on the Bicentennial Stage with performances by Fyfes and Drumms of Olde Saratoga, Skip Parson’s Dixieland Band, Bluz House Rockers and Latitude 43.

Mike Emmerson was with his daughter, Andreija, on Saturday afternoon. They’re moving to Wilton next month where Andreija will start at Dorothy Nolan Elementary School.

“This is kind of a nice way for her to see the community,” said Emmerson.

Kids had opportunities to participate in activities like rock climbing, caricature drawings, face painting and pony rides.

“It’s amazing. It’s awesome,” said Emmerson. “I think more communities should do this.”

The Wilton town supervisor called Saturday’s Community Day celebration extra-special because the town continues to celebrate 200 years.

Amaryllis Velez attended Saturday’s event

with her husband and their two children. Her oldest, Aidan, enjoyed the big slide the most.

ParkFest’s attractions included rides and food on the midway. Acts included two-time medal champion of magic George Saterial and juggling comedian Bryson Lang.

The Main Stage featured Beatlemania Now in the evening, which was labeled as the ultimate celebration of Beatles music.

Stewart’s Shops gave out free ice cream samples, including the limited-time Bicentennial ice cream flavor, Karner Blueberry.

There was an ice cream eating contest, a sidewalk chalk-drawing contest, a cookie decorating contest and more during the allday event.
