SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.» One local dog’s story is being told with the release of a new children’s book called Lucky’s Adventure in Saratoga.

Author Elizabeth Macy, Lucky’s owner, is celebrating the launch of her first-ever book with an event from 4 to 7 p.m. on July 11 at Sinclair Saratoga, located at 17 Maple Avenue in downtown Saratoga Springs.

The book launch party, a family and dog friendly gathering, will feature a book signing with Macy and Lucky, a doggy photo booth and activities for kids.

Lucky’s Adventure in Saratoga was inspired by the true story of when Lucky ran away from a friend’s house while her owner was out of town, and was lost in Saratoga Springs.

Readers can take an adventure with Lucky as she travels through the city, meeting her new animal friends as they safely guide her around Saratoga Springs in search of her mommy.

Lucky, who is a little rescue Yorkie-Affenpinscher mix, visits many iconic and historic spots like Saratoga Race Course, Congress Park and Saratoga Performing Arts Center during her fictional journey, before making her grand return home.

In both the book and the actual story, Lucky was safely found after four long days thanks to the incredible support of the Saratoga community. “The community was so involved in helping to find her,” Macy recalls of the experience, expressing her gratitude. “Everyone was out scouring the streets, looking for her. It was just amazing.”

Before Lucky’s real-life adventure, which took place over Thanksgiving in 2016, Macy had never considered writing a book. But with such an amazing story,

“I just had to write about it and share with the community,” she said.

While the children’s book is a warm, fun take on her travels, Lucky’s tale is a miraculous one that can be appreciated by all ages.

“I am so excited to share this heartwarming story with locals and tourists and to showcase my beloved hometown of Saratoga through the beautiful illustrations in the book,” said Macy, a native Saratogian and local entrepreneur with Image Photo & Events and Saratoga’s Best magazine .

Truly a local effort, Lucky’s Adventure in Saratoga was illustrated by area artist Jenn Kocsmiersky and published by Saratoga Springs Publishing.

Lucky’s Adventure in Saratoga can be purchased at Wednesday’s launch event, online at www.LuckysAdventures.net or in local stores including Northshire Bookstore, G. Willikers and Impressions of Saratoga. The large, hardcover picture book costs $17.99.

A portion of the proceeds from Wednesday’s event will be donated to H.O.P.E. Animal Rescue. Likewise, a portion of all the book’s sales will be donated to local shelters.

Looking ahead to the future, Macy hopes to share more of Lucky’s Adventures, possibly about other cities and towns she likes to visit. “Stay tuned for Lucky’s next adventures,” Macy said.
