TSL Adventures opens location in Ballston Spa
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » TSL Adventures — a day care, summer camp and afterschool program for children ranging in ages from six weeks to 15 years old — recently opened a location in Ballston Spa.
Pastor Scott DeBlock was pastor at one of TSL’s first locations at the Niskayuna Reformed Church and, when he moved to Ballston Spa, he contacted TSL because he had a former pre-school facility that was not being used.
The Summer Camp program being offered at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 22 West High Street, is for school-aged children and runs for a total of ten weeks. Parents can decide how many weeks to enroll their children. According to Lynette Smith, one of the founders of TSL Adventures, enrollment has been very good for their first year in the new location, but they still have spaces available. Smith said that parents who are still looking for summer programs for their kids should look for Groupon discounts that are still available.
TSL Adventures was started in 2009 by three teachers, Tom Styles, Shameka Brown-Johnson and Lynette Smith. The trio have worked together for 23 years, first as students at The College of Saint Rose, then as teachers in the Albany City School District, and as cofounders and partners in TSL Adventures.
They state that their goal is to provide a fast paces recreational experience, while nurturing a child’s creative abilities and offering positive stimulus to aid in the maturation process.
Since opening in 2009, TSL has opened locations in Albany, Troy, Schenectady Scotia, Rotterdam, Niskayuna, Clifton Park and now in Ballston Spa. Their goal is to open one new location each year.
In addition to the summer camp programs, TSL offers daycare, vacation camp, and after school programs at various locations throughout the Capital District.
Smith said that there are some Saratoga County parents who commute to Albany or other locations and bring their children to daycare programs run by TSL in facilities near their work locations.
All three founders hold advanced degrees and certifications in Education and they all continue to teach during the academic year in Albany.
