KARNER BLUE BUTTERFLY WALK: Karner blue butterflies of the second brood have been observed at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The most accessible trails for observing the endangered butterflies are at Camp Saratoga where the trail leaves from parking lot #1 on Scout Road. The other trails are Old Gick Farm and Fox which are accessed from parking areas off of Route 50, just north of King Road. Guided nature walks to look for butterflies will take place on Wednesdays from July 11 - August 1, at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. The walks leave from the parking area for the Saratoga Sandplains Wildlife Management Area Old Gick Farm on Route 50, just under four miles past Wilton Mall. PULMONARY FIBROSIS SUPPORT GROUP: The July meeting of the Caiptal District/Saratoga Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) Support Group will be held on Wednesday, July 11, at 6 p.m at Clifton Park Public Library, 475 Moe Road. Dr Scott Beegle, a board-certified pulmonologist at Albany Medical Center’s Pulmonary and Critical Care Center, will discuss Pulmonary Fibrosis its diagnosis and treatment. SARATOGA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL: Founded by parents in 1991, Saratoga Independent School is a New York State chartered private elementary school for children in pre-K through grade five. SCHOHARIE CROSSING: Join an environmental educator on Wednesday, July 11. at 5:30 p.m. at Schoharie Crossing State Park for a conservation-themed walk to learn about Leave No Trace and how it relates to protecting wildlife and the historic site. This program will meet at the Visitor Center for an hour-long walk around the site. This program is open to all ages, but has been designed for families with children ages 5 and up. The hike is a less than two mile round-trip and will be weather dependent (cancelled in the event of heavy rain or thunderstorms). COUPONS: The Saratoga County Office for the Aging Elderly Nutrition Program is currently distributing Farmers’ Market coupons to qualifying seniors: those 60 and over making up to $1,860 a month in a oneperson household or $2,504 a month in a two-person household. BUTTERFLY WALK: Summer is a time of fun in the sun, but it’s also a prime time to spot beautiful butterflies in flight. Take an educational walk through the Karner management area to learn more about the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly and state threatened frosted elfin,
their ecology and relationship to wild lupine, as well as how the butterflies and their habitat are monitored and managed. Part of the program is Congregate Dining, where people age 60 and older can participate in a meal served at noon at different sites in Saratoga County. A Traveling BBQ hosted by Saratoga County Office for the Aging and Northeast Dining & Lodging will be served at the Edinburg Community Center, 47 Military Road, on July 13. Reservations are required by noon on July 12. A registration form must be completed by each participant annually.
