SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. » A new exhibit called “Practical but Beautiful” has opened at Parks-Bentley Place, the Historical Society of Moreau and South Glens Falls headquarters, at 53 Ferry Blvd.

Items on display include household necessities that are also designed to be appealing to the eye.

Among the artifacts are homemade soap, crocheted items, handmade candles, hooked rugs and housewares, clothing and baskets. Also on display are the tools that early residents would have used to make each item.

Historical Society members will provide tours and answer questions concerning the history of the crafts used to produce the exhibited items. Tours of the historic house and its out-buildings are also available.

The exhibition also has a scavenger hunt component to enhance the fun.

Parks-Bentley Place is one of the three oldest buildings in the Glens Falls area and is the only one open to the public.

Self- and guided-tours of the historic house and grounds are available Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. through October and Tuesdays from 1-4 p.m. in July and August.
