Take an educationa­l walk through the Karner management area to learn more about the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly and state-threatened frosted elfin, their ecology and relationsh­ip to wild lupine, as well as how the butterflie­s and their habitat are monitored and managed. KARNER BLUE BUTTERFLY WALK: Karner blue butterflie­s of the second brood have been observed at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The most accessible trails for observing the endangered butterflie­s are at Camp Saratoga where the trail leaves from parking lot #1 on Scout Road. The other trails are Old Gick Farm and Fox which are accessed from parking areas off of Route 50, just north of King Road. Guided nature walks to look for butterflie­s will take place on Wednesdays from July 11 - August 1, at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. The walks leave from the parking area for the Saratoga Sandplains Wildlife Management Area Old Gick Farm on Route 50, just under four miles past Wilton Mall.
