Spa City family gives $2.5M to Albany Med
ALBANY, N.Y. » A $2.5 million gift from a Saratoga Springs family to The Massry Family Children’s Emergency Care Center at Albany Medical Center, the region’s only pediatric emergency department, was announced Friday by James J. Barba, president and CEO of Albany Med.
The announcement was made during Albany Med’s annual Light Up the Night gala at Saratoga National Golf Club.
The donation from Robert and Lisa Moser, and their children Carson, 10, and Emery, 8, supports Albany Med’s latest project, bringing the amount raised to almost $17 million of the $20 million goal. The total cost of the project is $50 million. When it opens in August, this will be the only pediatric emergency department in northeastern New York and western New England, a news release said.
“Our gift reflects our family’s commitment to improving the quality of everything that our region does for children,” said Robert Moser, a real estate developer and owner of Prime Group Holdings, said in the release. “The pediatric emergency department, like The Cleft-Craniofacial Center at Albany Med, which we are also proud to support, is focused squarely on children – making a difficult time easier for them and their families, providing a safe environment to get the best possible care and improving their overall experience. We are very pleased to be part of this important initiative.”
In the release, Barba said, “Thanks to the Moser family’s generous donation, the children of our region will not only have access to excellent care from the finest and best-trained pediatric physicians and staff in our region, but they will receive it in a place of their own – a place that was created for children and families – a place like no other. Their gift will, no doubt, have a lasting impact on its future success, and we are most grateful.”
The Massry Family Children’s Emergency Center will be exclusively for children and teens through 18
years old, and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round. The fourstory, 70,000-square-foot facility, which will be located adjacent to the current Emergency Department, is designed specifically for the needs of children and their families, and offers access to the full range of pediatric specialists. It will be staffed by physicians, nurses and mid-level providers specially trained in pediatric emergency medicine.
Over the past year, the Moser family has donated more than $5 million to Albany Med projects. Last July, Albany Med announced a $2.5 million gift from the family to benefit the work of Oluwaseun (Seun) Adetayo, M.D., and Albany Med’s Cleft-Craniofacial Center, which serves children from the region who are born with cleft, cranial and facial abnormalities.
The Mosers are natives of the Capital Region; Robert Moser is a graduate of Queensbury High School (1995) and Union College (1999), and Lisa Moser is a graduate of Hudson Falls High School (1993) and Siena College (1997).
