EDIBLE PLANT PROGRAM: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site has reschedule­d the edible plant program with environmen­tal educator and author Anita Sanchez for August 1 at 6:30 p.m. Sanchez will discuss wild edible plants and there will also be samples of plants found on the grounds of the historic site. There will be wild teas to try as well. The program will meet outside the Visitor Center at 129 Schoharie Street, Fort Hunter. This Wildlife Wednesday event is free and open to the public. WALK: Karner blue butterflie­s of the second brood have been observed at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The most accessible trails for observing the endangered butterflie­s are at Camp Saratoga where the trail leaves from parking lot #1 on Scout Road. The other trails are Old Gick Farm and Fox which are accessed from parking areas off of Route 50, just north of King Road. Guided nature walks to look for butterflie­s will take place on Wednesdays from July 11 - August 1, at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. The walks leave from the parking area for the Saratoga Sandplains Wildlife Management Area Old Gick Farm on Route 50, just under four miles past Wilton Mall. CAMP SARATOGA 5K FUN RUN: The Saratoga Stryders host a series of five fun runs on wooded trails at the beautiful 310 acre parcel. The race series is open to all ages and abilities, run one race or all five. A raffle is held at the end of each race with many prizes awarded. Registrati­on is $5 per race at the door starting at 5:30 p.m. Races begin at 6:15 p.m. sharp - rain or shine. There are no water stops on the course, but water is available at the finish. COAST GUARD DAY: The United States Coast Guard, one of the country’s five armed services, is a unique agency of the Federal government. The service was founded on August 4, 1790 when the first Congress authorized the constructi­on of ten vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws and prevent smuggling.
